Objective 1

Study planning and set up

· · Lead on the development of a process evaluation – with support from the ENN PI and QDM

· · Work with the ENN PI and QDM to finalize site specific data collection tools (both quantitative and qualitative)

· · Identify and address any language barriers through translation and back translation of tools and templates

· · Support the ENN PI and ENN PM with procurement of local equipment (e.g. data collection equipment e.g. mobile phones, anthropometric equipment)

· · Work with the ENN PI and qualitative study manager to pilot site specific data collection tools (both quantitative and qualitative)

· · Support the development of training manuals for REFANI enumerators

· · Support the development of job descriptions for all the study staff, especially the field officers and enumerators

· · Be responsible for recruitment of field staff(with support from ACF)

· · With the support from the ENN PM and ACF develop contracts for study staff

· · Work closely with ACF and the study IT support manager to set up and pilot the electronic data collection system

· Develop a database for electronic data collection (with support from ACF)

Objective 2

Co-ordination

  • Work closely with the qualitative study manager to coordinate quantitative and qualitative data collection
  • Work closely with ACF and other key stakeholders (e.g. government) to communicate the aims and objectives of the study.
  • Support ACF to ensure the timeliness of the intervention implementation to coincide with data collection periods.
  • Explore opportunities for national level participation in the study vis-a-vis Government and national academic institutions e.g. Aga Khan University, Research Collective.
  • Establish a strong working relationship with ACF in Dadu and, with the support from the ENN PM where needed, help ensure strong communication links and information flow between ACF and ENN PI.

Objective 3

Training and team management

  • Be prepared to undergo any training and partake in training as identified with the ENN PI
  • Train the study team in all aspects required by the REFANI study, and provide on-going training and supervision to the study team as and when required
  • Have daily meetings with the study staff before they leave for data collection (to motivate, feedback from the previous day and to troubleshoot any problems as they arise)
  • Familiarize the study team on the REFANI research principles (including ethical procedures)
  • Familiarize and regularly remind the study team of the importance of the research, and emphasis the importance of quality and consistency of the data being collected and potential pitfalls, such as attrition
Objective 4Data management
  • Plan data collection surveys in detail and manage all aspects of data collection. Electronic technology is planned for data collection. The SC will work closely with ACF and with the study IT support manager to oversee the management of this, to troubleshoot any problems as they arise and to ensure all technological equipment is up to date and in good working order.
  • Ensure a very high level of understanding, consistency and accuracy in data collection by regular supervision of staff and monthly spot checks on data collection techniques; looking at 5% of all data collected for accuracy.
  • Undertake regular data cleaning after monthly data collection if needed
  • Coordinate with the study qualitative manager on the collection and management of the quantitative and the qualitative data
Objective 5Reporting
  • Have regular telecom meetings with the ENN PI and ENN PM to report on progress, and as and when needed, support visits
  • Participate in regular ACF team and base meetings
  • Produce monthly written reports for the ENN PI and ENN PM on key developments and deliverables. These reports will also be sent to the ACF FC to ensure any issues arising can be addressed
  • Support the ENN PI in the analysis and write up (providing preliminary drafts where necessary) of the study findings for peer review publication/s
  • Present the findings at key meetings
  • Provide written and verbal inputs on the project, and contribute to regular communications as and when required by the REFANI consortium, in order to support and further research uptake.
  • Working closely with the ACF advocacy and communication team in Pakistan, help the REFANI consortium identify existing country-level platforms, networks and individuals who should be involved in research uptake and dissemination

Skills

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL
Work Experience:
 3-5 years of project management field experience
 Previous experience of quantitative and qualitative data collection (including anthropometric measurements)
 Previous experience of managing large data collection teams
 Previous experience of training and supervision of data collection teams
 Experience of working with local authorities, government, and implementing agencies

Other skills and attributes:
- Pakistan national
- Fluent in English and Sindhi
- Full-time commitmentwitha task oriented approach
- Be available full-time in the field during study set-up and data collection periods
- Can start as soon as possible
- Ability to lead a local team and work within a larger international team but to also work alone for periods of time
- Strong organisational skills
- Strong day to day problem solving skills
- Excellent data management skills and use of spreadsheets and databases (Microsoft Access, Epidata, Epi Info)
- Proven quantitative data analysis skills and use of data analysis programmes (e.g. State, SPSS)
- Working knowledge of Office programmes (e.g. Word, Power point, Excel)
- Excellent report writing skills with proven ability to communicate and disseminate key data and findings to non-technical audiences

PREFERRED
- Knowledge of local area
- Database design
- Use of MOYO charts
- Use of electronic technology for data collection
- Proven qualitative data analysis skills and use of data analysis programmes (e.g. Nvivo)
- Publications in relevant field
