Identification of appropriate crop varieties, cropping patterns and scheduling for the flood affected farmers of the project districts. Planning for inputs needs of target farmers and timely distribution of inputs Training of farmers groups in improved agricultural techniques - planting, fertilization, water management, pest control etc. Establish demonstration plots of major crops to demonstrate and disseminate improved production techniques. Identify marketing constraints especially in the area of information, price, quality of products etc. Promote market linkages for effective product marketing Training of farmer groups to enhance their marketing skills Identify and facilitate approaches to ensure access to training/information for women (e.g. Vegetable gardens) Implement agriculture livelihood and early farm recovery. Establish Linkages between farmer groups and related stakeholders especially and other organizations engaged in agriculture business for effective service provision to the community groups Formulation of work plans for project(s)/program(s) To manage program information effectively include relevant information in the project/program implementation process Specific Functions:
1. Input DistributionsThe agriculture assistant will ensure the timely distribution of seed, fertiliser inputs and tools/assets in line with objectives and procedures endorsed by the Programme Coordinator. All distribution documentation must be prepared and endorsed by the program manager prior to the distribution of the inputs and must be returned fully completed and cross-checked by the program manager immediately following the completion of the distribution activity. The agriculture assistant shall ensure that regular monitoring is undertaken across the village tract of intervention following the completion of distribution activities. Monitoring activities must be planned with the support of project coordinator and, whenever relevant, AMEU. All monitoring activities shall be accompanied with a report to which the Agriculture assistant will contribute relevant information and data. 2. TrainingThe Agriculture assistant will support the development of a training plan and schedule together with the program manager and directly implement all training activities outlined therein. Specifically, the Agriculture assistant shall train the participants to the project and ensure that the supporting documentation is completed and provided to the Program Manager in a timely and concise fashion.Agri assistant will be directly responsible for conducting FFS and FFDs.He/She should be responsible for KG/tree plantation and perma culture trainings. 3. MonitoringThe Agriculture assistant shall support the development of a monitoring plan and directly undertake regular monitoring visits to beneficiaries, demonstration plots and plants nurseries Specifically, the Agriculture assistant shall verify that the programme processes and objectives, as defined by project proposals, are met. All monitoring activities shall be complemented by a relevant report, prepared with the support of the program manager 4.Nursries establishment
The agriculture assistant shall establish desired number of nurseries and will be directly responsible for the selection of beneficiary for nurseries; Agriculture assistant will visit the nurseries from time to time for support and technical input to the beneficiary which is crucial for the development of plants. Agriculture assistant will be responsible for organising exposure visits of target communities to the nurseries.
