With containerization of the liner services in the 1970s, the A. P. M�ller Group recognized its customers� business requirements for the specialized loading (consolidation) of containers at overseas origins with the aim to better utilize the container space. Consequently, shippers and other transportation customers required improved information and documentation and it was out of this need that Maersk Logistics was established in 1977. With time, other landside services such as local transportation, warehousing and distribution, and airfreight were introduced, expanding Maersk Logistics� range of services. There are now around 200 offices in over 90 countries. In 2007, Maersk Logistics� forwarding services, including DSL Star Express, airfreight and landside services and Damco Sea & Air merged into the freight forwarding company Damco.
