Position Responsibilities:
The Senior Legal Aid Expert will lead on the delivery of all activities under Component 1:
· Lead all activities related to legal aid and community-based paralegals with partner Pakistani Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)
· Support and oversee the establishment, performance, and monitoring of Legal Service Centers and legal aid services by lawyers and paralegals
· Manage a training needs assessments for lawyers
· Manage the production of training manuals and textbooks for lawyers and paralegals
· Manage the development and implementation of trainings for lawyers and paralegals
· Collaborate closely with the Punjab Bar Council and district bar associations
· Liaise with relevant government officials at provincial, district and local levels
· Coordinate activities with other project components
· Travel to project districts to provide oversight, training, mentoring, and monitoring
· Manage all data collection and analysis related to case tracking and M&E for Component 1
· Write all Component 1 contributions for project reports and other publications
Required Qualifications:
· Law Degree (JD or LLM preferred) from an accredited institution
· Member of the Bar in good standing in any jurisdiction
· At least 10 years directly relevant professional experience
· Experience working with legal aid NGOs in similar contexts, preferably in South Asia
· Experience with curriculum development for adult learning and Trainings-of-Trainers
· Experience with donor-funded justice sector projects
· Ability and willingness to live in Lahore and travel in southern Punjab, Pakistan
· Excellent verbal and written English language skills; Urdu an advantage
· Ability to work effectively in sensitive environments with vulnerable populations
· Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel (complex spreadsheets) and database software
· Ability to manage multiple work assignments under time pressure and with minimal supervision
· Ability to finalise professional plans and reports in English with limited editorial oversight
The European Union Punjab Access to Justice Project (EU-PA2J) is being implemented in Lahore and southern districts of Punjab by GDSI, based in Ireland. The objective of the project is to increase access to justice, especially for poor and vulnerable people, by enabling them to better claim their legal rights through effective legal services and justice systems. The project aims to enhance: · The availability and quality of legal advisory and representational services; · The quality and effectiveness of judicial and prosecution processes; and · The legal and judicial information available to the public
