IRC works in partnership with local government and non-governmental organizations and currently works in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh provinces.

Job Overview/Summary:

Under the supervision of DRR Specialist, the incumbent will be responsible to implement the DRR related activities of the DRR project in Sindh province 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Co-ordinate with DRR Specialist for effective implementation of the CBDRR activities;
  • Conduct DRR based activities so that stakeholders (communities, government officials, schools) have increased capacity to prevent, prepare for and mitigate disaster risk through locally appropriate DRR strategies. 
  • Assist DRR Specialist to enhance Institutional Linkages so that Implementation of community and school based approaches to DRR are improved.
  • Assist DRR Specialist in developing operational plans on weekly and monthly basis, reviewing activities periodically, to ensure that project expenditures are used within limits and guidelines 
  • Develop progress reports periodically to line manager, in order to ensure the provision of accurate and updated information;
  • Work with the community for the roll-out of agreed project activities;  
  • Assist mobilization Team and communities in identifying CB-DRR activities e.g. Early Warning, Hazard Mapping, for community members, and also engage children and youth in suitable engagement/participation sessions through meetings and sessions;
  • Facilitate the process of community mobilization and formation of Village Disaster Management Committee;
  • Supervise and Conduct Capacity building programs at school and community level for VDMCs and also cover Hazard, Risk, Vulnerability and Capacity assessment (HRVCA);
  • Facilitate and provide technical support to the Village Disaster Management Committees in conducting Hazard, Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment and also develop report;
  • Work with Village Disaster Management Committees to come up with Community Based Disaster Management (CBDM) Plans;
  • Ensure that CB-DRR is implemented effectively in a good quality standards and ensuring consistency of the work in accordance to the programme goal and objectives;
  • Facilitate and organize field visits of various stakeholders at field sites for effective implementation and support to ensure sustainability;
  • Develop, maintain and improve work coordination and linkages with local key partners (community, NGO, international bodies and District Authorities), to ensure the successful implementation of the project activities;
  • Provide regular and follow up support to communities organizations on CB-DRR activities;
  • Undertakes any other tasks assigned by supervisor.

 Job Requirements:

Education:

Master degree in social work, rural development or community based disaster management

Work Experience:

Minimum 2 years’ experience in relevant projects

 Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

·         Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. 

·         Good team player and coordination skills

·         Experience of working on DRR focused interventions

·         Experience of working with government line departments   

·         Strong knowledge of local living conditions and infrastructure

 Language Skills: 

·         Strong oral and written English, Urdu

·         Local languages

Desirable criteria:  

·         Work with INGOs

·          Experience of working in North Sindh
