Duty locations The hub extension agronomist/ agronomist will be located in Punjab Pakistan in Faisalabad or anywhere within the domain of the Hub. The position will become operative as soon as a suitable candidate is identified. Responsibilities - Carry out needs assessment for selected districts through hub region field visits.
- Conduct, lead, and coordinate farmer participatory trials on crop and resource management in cereal-based systems on conservation agriculture platforms.
- Implement the technical program work plan with public and private CSISA partners.
- Carry out practical demonstrations, field days, and farmer training on technology and related issues in targeted areas.
- Support scientists to adapt better on-farm research studies for assessing new technologies.
- Manage, analyze, and report data from farmer participatory trials.
- Interact and organize meetings with various stakeholders to discuss, streamline, and implement the technology transfer program.
- Contribute to technical working groups formed by key stakeholders.
- Interact with a wide-ranging clientele including farmers, private and public sector staff, and scientists.
- Assist the hub manager with budget, staff management, and other activities.
- Report to the hub manager, with additional oversight by the CSISA Delivery and Adaptive Research Coordinator South Asia.
Key Performance Indicators / Measures of Success - Identification of farmersÂ’ technology and information needs.
- Locally tailored information and technology solutions for improved management of cereal systems are designed and made available to a wide range of clients.
- Bottlenecks for technology adoption are identified and overcome.
- Large-scale adoption of new technologies and project targets are met.
- Impact and lessons learned documented.
- Expansion to other areas initiated.
Minimum Education: - MasterÂ’s degree or equivalent qualifications/experience in crop production, agronomy, soil science, or other agricultural areas.
Experience Required - Demonstrated experience with farmer participatory research with a particular emphasis on soil, water, and crop management on conservation agriculture platforms for improving productivity of cereals ( rice, wheat and maize) and cotton based cropping systems in Punjab, Pakistan. - Good understanding of conservation agriculture practices and CA machinery. - An in-depth understanding of the cotton production system and ideas - Good knowledge of farmer participatory technology dissemination methods. - Ability to anticipate and find solutions to field problems (seeds, soil, and water management, integrated pest management, farm machinery, nutrient management, post-harvest operations). - Good communication skills for training farmers, extension staff, and input providers. - Ability to interact and collaborate with public and private sector institutions. Other requirements: - Must be fluent (spoken and written) in the local language at the duty location.
