It has been committed to assist the needy people all over Pakistan. IH is mainly active in Social Protection, Water Sanitation & Hygiene, Shelter & NFIs and livelihood sectors.

Main Purpose of Job

Under the overall and direct supervision of the Project Manager, the SOs/HPOs will be based in Bannu field office and will be responsible and accountable for mobilization and organization of the target community, implementation of IH-CRM mechanism and operationalization of humanitarian principles and minimum protection standards. The incumbent will also conduct standard hygiene promotion trainings in the target community to improve general hygiene practices and contribute in reducing morbidity.

Major Responsibilities

Responsibilities as Social Organizer

  • Introduce the objectives of Islamic Help’s intervention to the target communities and orient them about the project main activities and objectives.
  • Identify potential leaders, influential, decision makers/opinion makers in the working area and maintain good relationship with these community stakeholders.
  • Adopt/constitute community representative groups and encourage them for their representation and participation in the planning and decision making process.
  • Initiate dialogue and discussion with the target TDP/Host communities and design ToRs in consultation with community representatives for assigning defined roles and responsibilities.
  • Conduct separate male and female BBCMs and FGDs according to the local norms and traditions to make sure their opinions, concerns and choices are incorporated in the project activities.
  • Identify the most vulnerable beneficiary families in the target villages and maintain beneficiary database as well as record and document community meetings.
  • Take lead role in organizing the target community to smoothly execute the project activities by respecting the dignity and integrity of the conflict affected families.
  • Disseminate information about the progress of the project activities including procurement, verification and tentative material distribution among the constituted VOs and TDP/host beneficiary families
  • Identify and select secure and accessible distribution points in consultation with the community stakeholders
  • Implement and maintain effective complaint response mechanism in all phases of the project to document grievances of the target families and assist the PMT in taking relevant actions for necessary rectification.
  • Assist the community to identify potential gaps, analyse their problems and prioritize their needs as well as involve them in finding solutions to their collective problems.
  • Assist the target community in obtaining available outside resources through self-help and self-reliant initiatives.
  • Assist the MER officer in monitoring the project activities and provide inputs in developing potential case studies/success stories, weekly progress reports and final narrative report writing.
  • Provide regular updates to the line manager about daily activities through Field Visit Reports, workplans and proper documentation.
  • Coordinate project activities with all relevant community stakeholders and other working humanitarian partners in the target area.

Responsibilities as Hygiene Promotion Officer

  • Research and design standard hygiene promotion messages in national/local language (Pashto) and conduct hygiene promotion trainings in the target TDPs/Host communities.
  • Mobilize and encourage the target community for participation in the hygiene sessions in their respective villages
  • Disseminate awareness regarding personal, domestic and environmental hygiene, disease transmission routes and critical hand washing timings
  • Maintain records of the promotional and distribution materials
  • Maintain pictorial and documentary records of the hygiene training sessions
  • Ensure the distribution of exact quantity of hygiene kits to the selected beneficiary families
  • Support the Site Engineers in identification of suitable sites for the construction of Pour Flush latrines and hand pumps
  • Any other responsibility assigned by the line manager

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Education:

  • B.A/B.Sc in social sciences/management science. Masters degree holders will be given preference

Relevant Experience

  • Minimum 3-4 years relevant experience of social mobilization, community development and health/hygiene promotion.
  • Preference will be given to candidates having experience in WASH projects in KPK conflict emergency.

Skills Required:

 

  • Thorough knowledge of English, Urdu and local language (Pashto)
  • Good computer skills particularly in MS Excel, MS word, MS Power Point etc
  • Must be well groomed and have a pleasing personality
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to stand in front of a group without showing fear or arrogance
  • A desire to contribute to national development through community empowerment
  • Strong morals viz. honesty, transparency, generosity, altruism and respect
  • Motivated, team player, able to work alone and/or with minimum supervision
  • Must have practical experience of working with conflict affected population

WORK ENVIRONEMNT & SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES

The incumbent must show good time management and prioritization skills to work in a vibrant environment and operate on multiple fronts simultaneously. The employee can be deployed anywhere in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa/Pakistan to assist other IH programs in the capacity he/she is hired. Islamic Help, like other INGOs working in Pakistan, sometimes has to operate in risky environment/areas. Islamic Help has security management plan to deal with threats and to minimize risks. Islamic Help as a humanitarian organization responds to emergencies which may affect routine work.
