The Family Planning Counselor will work with the attached maternity units at the selected tertiary/secondary care hospitals of the province/districts in accordance with MCSP– Jhpiego protocols and guidelines to motivate and counsel the clients for family planning methods with a particular focus on long term contraceptive methods.

Responsibilities:               

  • Counsel the clients for healthy timing and spacing and family planning services  in ANC, LR, post-natal clinics and wards, as instructed.
  • Provide a referral card/FP choice card for receiving FP services for interval ,immediately after delivery or delayed postpartum period.
  • Ensure that all client are counseled and FP stamps on their ANC Cards indicating the specific method chosen/selected before leaving the facility
  • Keep record of all clients counseled, selected and accepted FP/PPFP service .
  • Collect and report the data from the FPTU attached facilities on weekly and monthly basis
  • Facilitate and ensure that commodities (e.g. PPIUCD, implants)  are available in sufficient amount at the clinical training sites
  • Develop a system for follow-up of clients who were counseled and accepted for FP/PPFP at ANC
  • Provide health education to clients on personal hygiene, healthy timing and spacing for pregnancy, and follow up care.
  • Maintain and ensure Infection Prevention (IP) practices at clinical training site and report for any short falls
  • Provide support in training events by identifying clients for skills demonstration.
  • Ensure availability of IEC materials at the FP corners, ANC/PNC clinics.
  • Work collaboratively with other program staff to ensure necessary program planning, development and management activities function smoothly and efficiently

Required Qualifications:

  • Qualified health professional in nursing/midwifery / Lady Health visitor/ family welfare worker /family welfare counselor
  • Work experience of a minimum of 2-3 years as a counselor in hospital setting, FP counselling experience will be preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills. Ability to relate well to a diverse patient population, health care providers, clinic support staff, and peers.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in the discussion of reproductive health, sexuality, contraception, pregnancy options OR similar issues requiring a high level of sensitivity to client responses, confidentiality, and theoretical knowledge
  • The contract duration will be 1 year.

We also will improve access of women and children to health services especially the poor and those who do not or cannot go for health care, by educating communities and families and setting up better transport and communications systems. By 2017, thousands of deaths of women, newborn babies and infants will have been prevented as a result of the USAID/Pakistan MCH Program. USAID/Pakistan has, in cooperation with the USAID Office of Inspector General, established the Anti-Fraud Hotline to provide an avenue for the reporting of fraud, waste, and abuse which may be associated with USAID funded projects in Pakistan.
