Jhpiego is an international non-profit health organization affiliated with The Johns Hopkins University, USA. For more than 40 years and in over 150 countries, Jhpiego has worked to prevent the needless deaths of women and their families. Jhpiego is dedicated to improving the health of women and families in developing countries. In Pakistan  Jhpiego will be working with guidance and support from  Global USAID funded Maternal and Child Health Survival Program, on “ Accelerating Family Planning in Pakistan” (AFPP) to quickly accelerate the achievement of Family Planning 2020 (FP2020) objectives in Pakistan . This is a one year project and will be working in three provinces of Pakistan- Sindh, Punjab, and Balochistan .

Jhpiego seeks a Finance and Grants Officer for upcoming Family Planning officer in Karachi, Pakistan. The Finance and Grants officerr is responsible for budgeting, implementing and maintaining an on-site financial and bookkeeping system required assuring the integrity and effective performance of the project office financial operations.

Responsibilities: 

  • Maintain and administer an excellent Jhpiego financial accounting system in support of the project
  • Plan and organize the accounting work and ensure compliance to set donor and Jhpiego guidelines
  • Ensure that required financial controls are in place and adhered to; prevent over-expenditure of budgets; ensure proper safeguards of funds, and ensure compliance with established donor, JHU and Jhpiego financial and accounting procedures
  • Implement and maintain detailed financial reporting and reimbursement process in accordance within Jhpiego’s established financial system
  • Monitor accurately all local and foreign bank accounts relevant for the programs
  • Timely prepare and examine accurately financial documents (e.g. invoices, vouchers, activity budgets and conversion memoranda) and other documents for payment and processing (e.g. purchase orders, leases, and contracts) and ensure the completeness, accuracy, and validity of financial data, including accounting classifications and computations
  • Review, reconcile and monitor all accounts, including major project operating accounts, advances given to project staff, motor vehicle fuel purchases, and petty cash operations involving cash advances
  • Prepare monthly and as required project reimbursement/billing requests and accompanying financial reports for submission to Jhpiego Baltimore through the Country Director
  • Ensure timely submissions of reports and finance-related requests for information
  • Manage the office’s financial and contractual files
  • Obtain pro-forma invoices and prepare procurement documents, such as Purchase Orders, Delivery Orders, Service Contracts, etc. for approval and/or signature by the Country Director
  • Perform or assume other duties as assigned by the supervisor to ensure the smooth functioning of all programs and the achievement of programs goals
  • Maintain regular contact and share financial updates with colleagues in Pakistan and the region as well as at the headquarters
  • Conduct on-the-job training for supervisees where needed

Required Experience & Qualifications:

  • University degree in Business Accounting and Auditing or similar field of study
  • Part qualification in ACCA or Professional accounting related field will be an added advantage
  • Knowledge of financial management of USAID and other dononr programs
  • At least five years’ experience in accounting with an international organization
  • Proficiency in software applications, databases, spreadsheets including Microsoft Word, Excel, QuickBooks, Accounting Package and Payroll
  • Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform
  • Sensitivity to working with multi-cultural groups, especially in low resource countries
  • Ability to develop productive working relationships with counterparts in other agencies and organizations worldwide
  • Ability to handle a variety of assignments under pressure of deadlines
  • Willingness to work on a wide range of tasks
  • Experience working on projects funded by international donors, including experience in developing and managing programs and budgets
  • Proficiency in software applications, databases, spreadsheets including Microsoft Word, Excel, QuickBooks, Accounting Package and Payroll
  • Ability to ensure adherence to applicable laws and regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise confidentiality and professionalism
  • The contract duration will be of 1 year
