The mMentoring or Mobile Mentoring Assistant will be responsible for maintaining contact between remote health workers and the telerevit system, setting up a system for refreshing knowledge and administering quick assessments iteratively, with the goal of improving retention and skills competency.

Job Responsibilities:

As the mMentoring Assistant, you will configure and manage a cloud-based SMS hub, managed out of the the MCHIP/Jhpiego country office, that will have the ability to send out SMS quiz questions, automated responses, practice reminders, technical updates, and teaching materials to MCHIP/Jhpiego’s skilled birth attendants following selected trainings. At the same time, you will manage incoming data and responses, monitor the system for errors or maintenance needed, and export and analyze data, to support their ongoing learning and help them feel supported, even remotely.

The role will require you to coordinate with the technical team in designing and refining the content for mMentoring and then managing day-to-day implementation of mMentoring. Additionally you will be responsible to submit reporting formats developed by MCHIP/Jhpiego to help monitor mMentoring success and response. Specific objectives of the position include;

  • Setting up of the Telerivet system, inputting content and testing with help from the ICT4D Officer
  • Collaboratively, in conjunction with technical experts, regional health officials, develop content to be entered into Telerivet
  • Create a schedule to send out quiz questions, practice reminders, technical updates and teaching materials relevant to the training twice every week (8 SMSs/month)
  • Configure automated responses to above into the system
  • Test the system in-house and refine
  • Provide a short orientation on mMentoring to all skilled birth attendants who attend the training
  • Enroll consenting/opting-in SBAs in the mMentoring system
  • Monitor responses, level of interest and drop-out rates to gauge the success of mMentoring
  • Suggest strategies to increase participation by recipients, including working out an incentive/recognition plan.
  • At the end of the training, reward participants with the most correct answers and highest level of participation by sending out a recognition text with her name and achievement to all skilled birth attendants who attended the training
  • Evaluate aggregate responses, identify lessons learned, and plan for scale up

Skills Required:

  • A degree in public health, business, management, or another related field,.
  • This is an entry level position and fresh graduates are also encouraged to apply.
  • Applicants should have familiarity and ease of use with computers and smart phones.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel or other data management software.
  • Knowledge of any SMS hub software such as FrontlineSMS, TextIt, Telerivet or other similar software is preferable.
  • Willing to dive in and learn new systems
