Position Overview

The Teaching Assistant, in collaboration with the classroom teacher will enhance, support, and enrich the learning programs. The Teaching Assistant is placed on probation for the first 2 months of employment.

Qualifications

The Teaching Assistant should have:

  • Bachelors degree.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.

  • Expertise in technology

  • Positive attitude.

  • Ability to participate in and establish collaborative relationships within the school context.

  • Understanding of developmental needs of students.

Preferred Skills
  • Educational experience in a School (i.e. teacher, TA, volunteer, room parent, PTA involvement, PTA board member )

  • Ability to work collaboratively with other adults in the school context.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with teacher/s and students.

  • Ability to ensure confidentiality and privacy of student and parent related issues.

  • Work habits that reflect an attitude of dependability, punctuality and consistency.

  • Ability to work in a multi cultural environment and relate to students from diverse cultural backgrounds.

General Responsibilities

The Teaching Assistant will:

  • Cooperate and coordinate instructional efforts with classroom teachers to reinforce the learning concepts.

  • Prepare necessary teaching materials, instructional aides, and bulletin boards for the classroom teacher (s).

  • Provide positive reinforcement and maintain appropriate management practices in instructional settings.

  • Provide classroom teacher(s) appropriate assessment information related to students in individual / small group settings.

  • Attend beginning of school year Open House for introduction to parents of classroom.

  • Assist with supervisory duties on the playground during lunch recess period

  • Participate in in-service training and workshops that are deemed beneficial for professional growth by administration

  • Provide coverage for classroom teacher during emergency situations

  • Assist on field trips and other activities involving students. i.e. Young Authors Day, Sports Day, Photo Day etc., )

  • Assist classroom teacher with inventory of classroom textbooks, supplies and furniture in May / June of each school year

  • Attend teacher meetings when required.

  • Assist teacher with clerical duties as needed.

  • Receive a yearly evaluation from their specific supervisor.

  • Receive a specifically designed schedule from their supervisor.

  • To be a team oriented and collaborative worker who is enthusiastic about working with children;

  • Adhere to the same discipline behaviors that are expected of students;

  • To support and enforce all school regulations and procedures

  • Communicates effectively with other staff members, students and parents any kind of problems that may happen

  • Works well with other members of the staff

  • Takes Initiative

  • Is receptive to advice and suggestions of others

  • Performs other tasks as assigned by Supervisor

  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.
