Job Description:

PURPOSE

The IT Manager is responsible for facilitating the school operations by effectively managing information technology support

SCOPE

The IT Manager reports to the Director and manages and provides hardware and software maintenance, training and consultation, and recommendations about future planning and development of resources.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Administrative:

  • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the operations of information systems and electronic data processing
  • Develop & implement policies and procedures for electronic data processing and computer systems operation
  • Manage and hire (if required) information systems personnel and contractors to design, develop, implement, operate and administer computer and telecommunication software, networks and information systems
  • Make recommendations about purchase of cost effective technology resources
  • Control the computer department budgets and expenditure

Operational - Monitor and maintain technology to ensure maximum access and effective usage

1. Install work stations, connect and set up hardware and load all required software

2. Provide orientation to new users of existing technology and train staff about potential uses of existing technology

3. Provide individual training and support, on request.

4. Trouble shoot all technology issues (hardware, software and network operating system) and maintain log and list of repair and maintenance

5. Provide essential network access to the staff and students

6. Provide secure network accounts and passwords, as required

7. Monitor security of all technology and advise staff of security breach and / or change in password

8. Maintain current and accurate inventory of technology hardware, software resources and users.

9. Identify and prepare hardware for disposal when appropriate. Ensure hardware is stripped and secured before disposal

Knowledge

The candidate must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

  • Computer hardware and software systems and programs
  • Computer networks, network administration and network installation
  • Computer troubleshooting
  • Computer viruses and security
