Project and Principal Activities

1. Attendance and involvement at work:

- Observe the MSF charter.

- Perform all activity in line with the MSF protocols and procedures.

- Respect the time schedule and be at work on time (flexible at anytime).

- Treat the patient with care and respect providing good quality care.

- Respect the patient privacy and strictly respect community culture, norms.

- Maintain good relationship with other team members.

- Adhere to MSF Clinical Guidelines and protocols.

2. Implementation of programmes

A system of night duties guarantees 24h/7 services.

3. Pre-operative consultation

- Checking the respect of medical confidentiality and providing patients with information on their illnesses and treatments.

Programmes interventions

- Carrying out the patients' pre-operative consultations before they undergo surgery.

-Evaluating the risks of operating in collaboration with the gynecologist/surgeon.

-Deciding on the type of anesthetics to be used.

Emergency interventions

- Carrying out the necessary resuscitation manoeuvres.

-Evaluating the risks of operating in collaboration with the gynecologist/surgeon.

- Checking that patients have given signed authorization for their operations.

4. Anesthesia

- Preparing the drugs, material and equipment required for administering the anesthetics.

- Administering the anesthetics in accordance with the techniques chosen beforehand and following the rules of hygiene and asepsis in force.

- Monitoring patients throughout their interventions.

5. Immediate post-operative surveillance (recovery room)

- Ensuring the immediate recovery of patients.

- Transferring patients to and installing them in the recovery room.

- Passing on the necessary information to the recovery room nurses.

- Evaluating patients pain and setting up a protocol of post-operative pain relief in accordance with MSF guidelines.

- Drawing up post-operative prescriptions in collaboration with gynecologist/surgeon.

6. Post-operative care

- Carrying out a joint round with the gynecologist/surgeon twice a day.

- Discussing therapeutic orientations with Anesthetist supervisor.

- Renewing prescriptions, checking they are followed.

7. Intensive care

- Providing post-operative follow up of surgical patients present in the facility (rounds, prescriptions, etc.).

- Ensuring the qualified medical care of critical patients.

8. Hygiene

- In collaboration with OT Nurse and Head Nurse checking that rules of hygiene concerning the protection of patients and personnel are followed.

- Ensuring that Universal precautions are followed.

9. Pharmaceutical material

- Setting up and monitoring the stock of anesthesia material.

- Supervising the hygiene and integrity of anesthesia material: decontamination, sterilization, storage conditions, etc.

- Checking that the anesthetics station is tidied cleaned and re-stocked between each patient.

10. In collaboration with other departments

- Maintaining close collaboration with the other department and responding to its frequent requests for her opinion and/or resuscitation.

- Intervening in support of the midwifery and obstetrics teams in the maternity department, particularly for the resuscitation of newborns.

- Intervening in support of other services if needed.

11. Others

- Participating in personnel meetings.

- Exercising vigilance and informing direct supervisor in the event of medical error.

- Participating in surgical-anesthesia data collection and drawing up monthly report.
