• Abstracts all necessary information and assigns codes (ICD-9, CPT & HCPCS), which most accurately describe each documented diagnosis, surgical procedure and special therapy or procedure according to established guidelines.
  • Determines the final diagnoses and procedures stated by the physician or other health care providers are valid and complete.
  • Analyzes provider documentation to assure the appropriate Evaluation & Management (E & M) levels are assigned using the correct CPT code.
  • Conduct coding reviews and training programs to assure coding quality.
  • Perform random chart audits.
  • Provide continual coding and payer updates.
  • Maintain knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10 and CPT classifications and coding of diagnoses and procedures.
  • Convert hand-written medical charts to code.
  • Research and resolution of coding projects as assigned.
  • Perform ongoing analysis of medical record charts for the appropriate coding compliance.
  • Knowledge of coding principles, State and Federal laws, and regulatory bodies as it pertains not only to coding, but to Medical Record processes is necessary.
  • Can follow accepted coding principles to assign all diagnoses and procedure codes for inpatient or outpatient records utilizing ICD-9-CM and CPT, must have substantial knowledge of ICD-10.
  • Coding claims directly from the medical charts and operative reports.
  • Assist with creation and distribution of educational material for all relevant staff on medical coding. This also includes changes with federal and local healthcare regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Perform quality assurance reviews to assess comprehension of training efforts.
  • Lead training sessions on current coding information in the medical field.
  • Assisting with research for denied claims & coding of physician encounters.
  • Develop curriculum and training handbook.
  • Create presentations.
Essential Requirements:
  • Must be a USA Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), RHIT and RHIA, or any US based certification in Medical Coding, membership with AAPC.
  • Candidates with relevant experience will be given preference.
  • Requires excellent communication, customer service and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to operate a computer in a MS Office Professional version- Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently while following company guidelines and procedures.
