PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

To maximize the impact of Muslim Aid Pakistan emergency and development programme and interventions. Also in case of a humanitarian crisis, by developing and delivering effective media and communication strategies and products, particularly with the national and international media

SCOPE

To ensure that media and communications work delivers good quality internal / external products, high profiling of the organization, campaigns and strategies that lead to change in policies and practices affecting the marginalized and poor people in Pakistan

RESPONSIBILITIES

General Responsibilities:
  • To adapt to the changing environment of NGO sector and forces of the competitive world.

  • To maintain constructive, purposeful, trust based and sincere relations with all colleagues working above or under whether directly or indirectly associated.

  • To continuously upgrade own knowledge, skills, attitude and application to become more valuable member of MAP family.

  • To update management and other concerned with any development, internal or external, which can be of help to improve quality, provide better services and effectiveness and efficiency.

  • To participate in all meetings, committees, forums, projects and assignments as required and expected.

  • To continuously think for betterment of MAP, it’s progress and its ability to fulfill its mission.

  • To maintain highest standards of honesty and integrity in all disciplines.


Major Responsibilities:
  • Provide overall managerial support and guideline to media, communication and public relations departments of Muslim Aid Pakistan.

  • To liaise with relevant staff at the regional and head quarter level to maximize the use of the contents generated.

  • Input to the development of, and help deliver, a media strategy on humanitarian crisis, response and recovery work, including long-term programme work, with a particular emphasis on national and social media.

  • Contribute ideas and input into international media strategies and activities relating to Pakistan.

  • Promote greater public awareness of, and understanding for Muslim Aid by consistent and meaningful provision of media coverage for the organization’s work and concerns.

  • Flexibility to respond quickly to the changing circumstances which can have a dramatic impact on the profile of the organization as well as a thorough understanding of the media role.

  • To promote Muslim Aid’s profile and increase its reputation through publications.

  • Develop press releases, stories, reactive lines, questions and answers, interview briefs and other relevant media products.

  • To ensure that print publications, information at Muslim Aid website and press releases are professionally written and align with MAP main objective.

  • To ensure that media spokesperson are properly briefed for media appearances.

  • To set by example, high standards of communications work within the team by often providing copy and audio-visual material for print and electronic publications.

  • Develop and enhance standard operating procedures for media, communications and public relations.

  • To ensure that designing and composition of documents and templates are in line with MAP policies and procedures.

  • Develop creative ideas and concepts, choosing the appropriate media and style to meet the organizational objectives.

  • Develop a detailed fundraising strategy for MAP to secure funding for core programme activities.

  • Respond quickly to emerging funding opportunities which can have a dramatic impact on the organization’s profile.

  • Identify new potential donors and develop long term professional relations with individual donors, partners and organizations.

  • Represent MAP in various networking events where appropriate in consultation with line manager.

  • Raise awareness to charity and its work both at local and national level, this may involve dealing with the media

  • Establish and maintain contacts with key national journalists covering development and humanitarian work, including the production of a list of key journalists based in Islamabad and their contact details, both on the national and international level.

  • Generate regular high quality media coverage of MAP programme and advocacy work

  • Assist with the media training of staff.

  • Assist in the logistical implications and arrangements of visits by journalists and celebrities.

  • Regularly visit programme to gather stories and scout out possible locations/news-lines for media trips.

  • Develop and implement communications strategy in light of the humanitarian and development work of MAP in Pakistan.

  • Develop and implement social media strategy for MAP in Pakistan.

  • Develop and strategize in producing digital content (stories, photos, blogs, videos, etc) to be used on MAP and other websites.

  • To liaise with relevant staff at the regional and head quarter level to maximize the use of the contents generated.

  • Uploading of relevant material onto the MAP websites and social media websites.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Muslim Aid is looking for a dynamic, creative result oriented person with thorough understanding of media, communication and resource mobilization.

  • Knowledge of the needs, requirement and objectives of potential donors, including trends within donors fundraising strategies.

  • Knowledge of and commitment to participatory methodologies and Knowledge of current thinking on development issues and methods.

  • Knowledge of the corporate sponsorship sector.

  • Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods (via written, oral, and visual media).

  • Excellent communications skills (verbal & written) to communicate effectively with representatives of donors’ public bodies, HQ and management of Muslim Aid.

  • Highly developed work organization skills, including prioritization and working to deadlines.

  • Good interpersonal skills with proven ability to convey complex ideas to a novice audience.

  • Researching and producing written materials of a demonstrably high quality in a professional capacity.

  • Developing and maintaining close relationships with donors.

  • Ability of developing systems, procedures and departmental strategies in coordination with fundraising team.

  • Proven ability to provide peer-to-peer support and coordination.

  • Excellent research and analytical skills.

  • Very effective organizational & Computer skills

  • Stress management & Time management skills
