Main Purpose of Job

The Veterinary Officer would be expected to provide support to our Bannu project in accordance with QC guidelines. The Livestock Officer is responsible for the promotion of livestock health and production through the introduction of improved system and appropriate extension service including veterinary and other health services for improved livelihood of communities.

Job Responsibility
 In collaboration with relevant bodies carry out feasibility study of alternative ways of improving livestock productivity, e.g. improved breeds, small-scale fattening, milk processing, etc;
 In collaboration with Field Coordinator prepares monthly, quarterly and annual work plans to effectively carry out livestock production/Community Based Animal Health Care (CBAHC) activities to achieve the project development objectives;
 In collaboration with relevant government counterparts carries out environmental assessment to determine impact/benefits arising from new livestock water source development;
 Collects baseline information related to livestock disease, access to animal health services and constraints to service delivery in collaboration with Field Coordinator
 Ensures the participation of community in the construction of ponds and in implementing environmental impact mitigation actions;
 Ensures communities’ participation in all livestock related activities.
 Strengthens organizational linkage between Community Animal Health Workers (CAHW), Pastoral Development Office, Govt and private veterinarians;
 Establishes cooperation with appropriate livestock research organizations and other projects and programs working on pastoral livestock industry issues;
 In collaboration with CAHWs carries out community sensitization and awareness regarding animal health issues;
 Updates the available training curriculum for new and refresher training of CAHWs in close collaboration with the Field Coordinator;
 In collaboration with CAHWs carries out community sanitation and awareness animal health issues;
 Provides community training for livestock water source management and development.
 Conducts selection of CAHWs, organizes and facilitate training;
 Ensures the supply of medical and non-medical equipment to CAHWs upon the completion of each training.
 Review and compile periodic reports by Field Coordinator
 Ensures systematic documentation on livestock health, nutrition and water so as to provide the Field Coordinator with relevant and up to date information.
