Job Description: Statistician/ Social Science / SPSS Expert

Position Objectives

This position will work in close collaboration with SES Pvt Ltd monitoring /Survey team and will be responsible for carrying out analysis on qualitative and quantitative data gathered from field using statistical tools like Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) & Microsoft EXCEL. The ideal candidate would feed the transcribed data collected from the field into SPSS. Cleansing of data and eventually running analysis and sharing project findings with the report writers. The candidate being a good statistician should also possess strong social sciences and statistics background and should also possess excellent report writing skills.

Job responsibilities, Duties and Tasks

· Develop and implement various standard M&E protocols (including questionnaires and survey designs) into SPSS and EXCEL.

· Supervise data management and its analysis using software such as SPSS and advanced excel.

· Extensive knowledge in conducting Baseline studies.

· Provide critical input for developing a framework for gathering baseline information in different projects.

· Ensure that all project reports are produced on time with high quality.

· Design, assist and impart trainings on statistical tools for in-house personnel.

· Lead and execute in-depth analytical projects based on various data sources, including primary and secondary data, using advanced statistical analysis techniques.

· Review and analyse information collected through the monitoring process and identify any need for changes.

· Good working knowledge of results framework (logical framework) within the context of performance indicators, which will be used to measure the outputs, outcomes and impacts anticipated.

· Ensure authenticity of information collected.

· Generate quality monitoring and project progress reports on Monthly and Quarterly basis (and more frequently, when conditions so require) according to established criteria and schedules.

· Ensure timely follow up of all visit reports such as audits, and control visits.

Job Specification (Minimum Job Requirements) Qualifications and Experience

· Masters in statistics, with advanced training in data collection methods and analysis

Or

. Masters of Social Sciences with advanced training of Statistics/ SPSS.

· A minimum of three years of experience as data analyst / statistician working for reputed donors agencies like World Bank, Asian Development Bank, INGOs, NGOs etc. Good proven track record is essential;

· Willing to go to field for data collection and supervision.

Technical Skills

Strong skills and experience with basic and advanced data analysis and statistical procedures typically used in social science, such as:

  • Frequency distributions & descriptive statistics (e.g., frequency, cross-tabulation, significance testing, analysis of variance, correlations).
  • Multivariate advanced statistics (e.g., various types of regression analyses, MANOVA, factor analysis, cluster analysis, segmentation, conjoint design & analysis, etc.
  • Data skills such as manipulating, synthesizing and analysing large complex primary and secondary (e.g. Census) data sets and appending primary data with secondary data to enrich insights.
  • Expertise and experience with relevant software applications, including:
  • Microsoft Office applications: Excel (extreme proficiency required), Word, and PowerPoint.
  • SPSS/SAS: Very strong SPSS/SAS skills with ability to write and execute syntax.
  • Other relevant applications a plus (e.g., Stata, MatLab, etc.)

Performance Indicators

· Expert in statistical tools like SPSS.

· Knowledge of quality assurance (QC/QA) techniques.

· Ability to work independently.

· Excellent M&E report writing skills.

· Creativity and initiative taking.

· Outstanding communication (both writing & speaking skills) in English.

· Outstanding project management skills, experience in developing work plans using Microsoft Project or Primavera.

Managerial Skills

The successful candidate must have the ability to:

· “Multitask” and work in a very fluid and typically rapid-paced workflow situation, usually “juggling” demands from multiple projects at the same time.

· Engage professionally and competently with clients.

· Manage multiple vendor relationships.

· On occasion, address overall research project needs beyond statistical issues.
