Teacher's – Junior School

Tasks are broadly the same for all subject teachers and include:

  1. Teaching all areas of the curriculum;

  2. Taking responsibility for the progress of students;

  3. Organizing the classroom and learning resources andcreating displays to encourage a positive learning environment;

  4. Planning, preparing and presenting lessons that cater for the needs of the whole ability range within their class;

  5. Motivating pupils with enthusiastic, imaginative presentation;

  6. Maintaining discipline;

  7. Preparing and marking work to facilitate positive pupil development;

  8. Meeting requirements for the assessment and recording of students’ development;

  9. Providing feedback to parents and carers on a student's progress at parents' evenings and other meetings;

  10. Coordinating activities and resources within a specific area of the curriculum, and supporting colleagues in the delivery of this specialist area;

  11. Working with others to plan and coordinate work;

  12. Keeping up to date with changes and developments in the structure of the curriculum;

  13. Organizing and taking part in school events, outings and activities which may take place at weekends or in the evening;

  14. Liaising with colleagues and working flexibly;

- Motivating and stimulating children's learning abilities, often encouraging learning through experience;
- Providing pastoral care and support to children and providing them with a secure environment to learn;
- Developing and producing visual aids and teaching resources;
- Organizing learning materials and resources and making imaginative use of resources;
- Assisting with the development of children's personal/social and language abilities;
- Supporting the development of children's basic skills, including physical coordination, speech and communication;
- Encouraging children's mathematical and creative development through stories, poems, games, drawing and imaginative play;
- Developing children's curiosity and knowledge;
- Working with others, including teaching assistants to plan and coordinate work both indoors and outdoors;
- Sharing knowledge gained with other practitioners and parents;
- Observing, assessing and recording each child's progress;
- Attending in-service training;
- Ensuring the health and safety of children and staff is maintained during all activities, both inside and outside the school;
- Keeping up to date with changes in the curriculum and developments in best practice.
