Job Purpose

Responsible for oversing and maintaining a safe environment for patient, visitor & personnel.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement safety program including inspection of clinical, non-clinical areas, work sites and equipment for compliance with safety standards, ordinance, laws & regulatory requirement.
  • Develop and maintain systems and programs to assure a comprehensive workplace Safety and Environment of Care management.
  • Increase health and safety awareness at all levels within the organization.
  • Participate in planning and organization of hospital safety programs, conferring and consulting with associated clinical and/or technical staff to assist in the maximization of safety services.
  • Educates staff on safe working practices and safety-related issues and assist in emergency preparedness.
  • Implement an Environment of Care and develop an orientation program for new hires and existing staff.
  • Manages a system for investigating all occurrences that involve damage, occupational hazard, injuries and reports and findings to the senior management.
  • Take timely action to intervene in situations or conditions that pose an immediate threat to life, health or property.
  • Work with and participate in interdisciplinary activities with the following departments/ services: Infection Control, Risk Management, Performance Improvement, Radiation Safety, Patient Safety, Standards Compliance, Safety & Security and Facility Management.
  • Integrate and coordinate all efforts regarding safety measures with other organizational staff resources.
  • To liaise with the facility management and safety & security regarding emergency procedures, communications and fire safety education programs and provide support regarding safety improvement efforts.
  • Review and update policies and plans pertaining to safety.
  • Monitors safety programs to minimize risk to patients, visitors and staff.
  • Prepare activity and status reports as necessary.
  • Required to perform periodic inspection and conduct ongoing safety tours of clinical and non-clinical areas so as to identify potential safety hazards related to physical environment.
  • Knowledge of principles of safety and security fire prevention.
  • Ability to maintain composure and respond properly during emergencies.
  • Daily Inspection of work places for identification of unsafe act and conditions, hazards and taking preventive and corrective measures.
  • Ensures the compliance of organization polices & procedures pertaining to fire prevention / fire fighting.
  • Act as coordinator/Focal person for safety Committee to ensure that meetings are held at regular intervals & action items are completed before the next meeting.
Requirements
  • Degree / Certification in environmental health, safety environment or occupational health.
  • Must have knowledge of safety, environmental regulations, and hazardous material management.
  • Demonstrated experience with statistical analysis and reporting.
  • Relevant Bachelor's / Master degree with at least five or more years experience in healthcare / Pharmaceutical industry.
  • Following certification(s) would be preferred;

· Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP)

· Certified Safety Executive (CSE)

· Certified Patient Safety Officer (CPSO)

· Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

· Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS)

· Certificate/ Diploma from NEBOSH or OSHA
