5. Reporting to: Director Species Conservation

6. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Overall supervision of the activities of the WWF-Pakistan GIS-lab.
  • Develop and strengthen the relationships with organizations like ICIMOD, SUPARCO, and other government, semi-government and international agencies. Organise meetings and presentations to promote GIS work and enhance collaborative ventures.
  • Negotiation of contracts, agreements for the provision of GIS lab services to WWF-Pakistan projects.
  • Develop new ideas for GIS projects, to integrate GIS input at the project development stage.
  • Prepare the annual and quarterly progress reports for respective directors on demand and for the donors as well.
  • Compilation and maintenance of an annual work plan including compliance with the terms of agreements pertaining to work deliverable by the GIS-lab in terms of formal contracts and commitments.
  • Maintain the hardware, software and web server resources and Completion of an annual assessment of the hardware and software requirements and human resource needs, including recruitment and in-service training, of the GIS-lab.
  • Design and customize the geo-spatial databases, GIS software through or visual basic programming languages under different projects and activities.
  • Publishing GIS studies in peer reviewed journals.
  • Carry out field surveys for data collection, as and when required.
  • Help in capacity building of the GIS team.
  • Facilitating visitors to the GIS-lab and visiting scientists and GIS practitioners and frame the products of GIS lab.

7. Required qualifications: A minimum of an MSc degree in Space Sciences/GIS or related subject. Competence in the advanced use of software packages such as eCognition Developer, Erdas Imagine and ESRIs ARCView and ARCInfo.

8. Required experience: A minimum of five years of relevant experience in GIS lab operations, preferably in a management role.

9. Other requirements: Excellent spoken and written English language skills. Competence in an additional scientific language would be an added advantage. A good team player with ability to communicate effectively.
