PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

These include but not limited to:

  • Ensure development and compliance with Project EHS life cycle, AMENA construction safety standards, and local regulations
  • Investigate accidents, injuries, or occupational hazards/illness’ to determine causes and put in place preventive measures.
  • Report and review findings from accident investigations, facilities inspections, and environmental tests
  • Develop, plan, conduct or coordinate worker training sessions for areas such as safety law and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment.
  • Interpret safety regulations for construction safety, and communicate accordingly.
  • Maintain and build relationships with external organizations such as fire departments, mutual aid societies, and rescue teams in order to facilitate emergency responses.
  • Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to work hazards
  • Design, conduct or coordinate worker training courses that cover safety law and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment.
  • Evaluate adequacy and relevance of existing policy, Implement corrective action health and safety violations.
  • Inspects the site to ensure it is a hazard-free environment.
  • Verifies that all tools and equipment are adequate and safe for use
  • Promotes safe practices at the job site
  • Enforces safety guidelines
  • Trains and carries out drills and exercises on how to manage emergency situations.
  • Conducts investigations of all accidents and near-misses
  • Reports to concerned authorities as requested or mandated by regulations
  • Conducts job hazard analyses.
  • Establishes safety standards and policies as needed
  • Watches out for the safety of all workers and works to protect them from entering hazardous situations.
  • Responds to employees’ safety concerns
  • Coordinates registration and removal of hazardous waste
  • Receives reports from and responds to orders issued by Department of Labor inspectors.
  • Arranges for Mandated testing and/or evaluations of the workplace by external agencies/consultants

QUALIFICATION EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

  • Tertiary engineering or science qualification
  • Minimum of 10 years of construction safety experience
  • Ability to identify an opportunity, assess the situation then develop and implement a process.
  • Working knowledge of construction safety process.
  • Thorough understanding of safety systems, legal requirements and implementation thereof.
  • Technical understanding of complex construction environment.
  • Knowledge of quality control standards and techniques.
