Action Against Hunger is seeking a Nutrition Assistant for SIDA VIII project title “Provision of lifesaving undernutrition treatment and prevention support to vulnerable communities affected by critical nutrition emergency in District Battagram, KP”.

The project will support Provincial Nutrition Cell (PNC) health department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to respond effectively to malnutrition emergency at district Battagram.

The project specific objective is “To improve community’s accessibility to life-saving care and prevention of acute under nutrition of pregnant and lactating mothers and children.

OBJECTIVES

Objective 1

Ensure effective management of clinical and other ailments at Basic Health Facility level OTP

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Plan and organize OTP/CMAM activities at designated distribution sites in liaison with health facility Incharge.
  • Work closely with DoH Health staffs to ensure all aspects of the program understood and appropriate referrals take place to and from the CMAM outreach and well integrated into the Primary Health Care and CMAMI approach.
  • Work closely with the health facility staff (MO/FMO/LHV), IYCF promoter and LHWs to ensure all children are screen correctly at health facility/OTP center and within targeted area.
  • Ensure all criteria are respected and understood by the team and community groups, including ; admission, discharge and transfer to and from the community or other source.
  • Ensure correct clinical diagnosis at the time anthropometric assessment so that the SAM patient receives appropriate treatment and enrollment based OTP admission criteria.
  • Timely identification of complications, non-responder, and referrals to the NSC and strong follow up until discharge for re-admission in OTP.
  • Ensure adequate availability of all medical and Therapeutic food supplies and ensure stock is pre-positioned as planned by discussing with Nutrition Officer and logistics.
  • Follow-up and provide feedback to the health facility Incharge and nutrition supervisor /officer on the amount and quality of the treatment supplies if it does not comply with specified quality standards.
  • Regular and strong coordination with PHC/CMAMI, NSC and Outreach staff on referral and integrated case management package.
  • Report on progress and any problems in a timely manner to health facility Incharge and nutrition supervisor/officer.
  • Through liaison with the community groups, provide effective follow up of all cases: particularly tracing of children who are absent from the program, sick children, long stay children, children not gaining weight, and children with social problems etc.
  • Provide key Health and Nutrition education messages to beneficiaries based the protocol and guidelines
  • Respond to inquiries regarding the technical aspects of the program admission and discharge whenever necessary at the CMAM sites.
  • Provide success stories / case studies in the intervention with coordination of Health facility in charge, Nutrition Officer / Manager.
  • Comply with National CMAM Guideline OTP protocol strictly for SAM case management.
  • Perform any other duties requested by the immediate supervisor

Objective 2

Supervise medicine administration in OTP activities

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Follow and respect the current protocols specially drug administration i.e. for de-worming, malaria, EPI schedule and MNP, IFA / Vitamin A supplements targeting children and PLW with proper documentation.
  • Add the activities linked to health and nutrition education in the protocols
  • Follow the treatment of the beneficiaries through home visits with support of community groups.
  • Participate in the follow-up of stock request and consumption.
  • Achieve ideal weight gain for enrolled patients as early as possible.
  • Ensure proper documentation and reporting of the stock distributed through OTP/Outreach activities.
  • Compile the statistical data inconjucation with NIS Assistant (admission, default, cured, absent, death) and draft a report on activities with timely submission to the program.

Objective 3

Network and coordinate with the relevant sectors

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Establish good relationship with the relevant stakeholders (DOH/and community)
  • Respond and coordinate properly with Nutrition Officer representing ACF.
  • Establish a network with the other actors in the working area (I/NGO)
  • Establish a good understanding of the program within the community
  • Establish link and meetings with the community leaders and different group existing in the working area.

Additional Task

  • This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive and the employee will perform other related tasks as required and responsible for reporting and communication of progress and achievement of the specific assigned task.
  • Inform ACF Nutrition Officer and Nutrition Manager any Technical problems encountered related CMAM/CMAMI Program.
  • Conduct all duties in a professional manner following ACF Pakistan and MOH staff regulations and charter.
  • Be flexible and adaptable about the implementation of the daily work.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Mandatory

  • Bachelor degree or Diploma in Nursing/Dispensary/LHV/Midwife/CMW with 1 Year overall working experience. Preference will be given to those who has experience in NGO / INGO in relevant position and program (i.e., CMAM & IYCF). 
  • Ability and willingness to autonomously travel to duty site/ health facility and villages when required.
  • Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions like long distance walking to work/distribution sites
  • Excellent spoken and written local (Pashto) /Urdu and English language skills
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

Preference

  • Experience in closely working with DOH and Taluka/District HQ Hospitals and at health facility level is advantageous
  • Previous experience working in clinical setting/CMAM is an asset
  • Ability to prepare weekly and monthly program reports
  • Candidates will be preferred who belong to ACF-intervention areas/UCs district Battagram or surrounding.
