The GP-AKDN partnership seeks to develop a product evidence base on which to catalyse a market for parametric risk transfer solutions to natural disasters in Central Asia.
To understand the opportunity for such a product in Pakistan, GP and AKAH are proposing to conduct a market assessment. This study will encompass research into the institutions as potential future clients, distribution partnerships and potential sectors of demand for such a product and discuss plans of similar projects in Pakistan.
The outcome of the study will provide an evidence base on which to understand the current level of knowledge of parametric risk transfer solutions and will gauge interest from identified institutions to deploy such a product. It will also provide initial information on the potential impact and scale of parametric risk transfer solutions.

1. The market assessment is designed to gain understanding of relevant institution’s current knowledge base of financial risk transfer solutions to natural disaster, including parametric solutions.
2. Assessment is to gauge demand of such products from identified institutions/ partners and sectors.
3. Documenting similar practices already available as well as any plans.

It is one of the largest third-sector networks of educational institutions in Pakistan and part of an international network of over 200 schools spread in 8 countries of the world under the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). Reaching out to the remotest areas of the country, AKES,P has been providing quality education in the region for the past 110 years. It is a direct provider of education for nearly 36,000 students from pre-primary to higher secondary levels and facilitates access to higher education through the provision of scholarships, hostels and other educational support services.With more than 2,000 employees, of whom over 1,500 areteachers, AKES,P is also supported by over 2,000 volunteers. In Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral, the first AKES,P schools were setup in the 1940s; since then they have contributed significantly toincreasing the literacy rates and social development in theremote, mountainous, harsh and ecologically fragile regions ofNorthern Pakistan. AKES,P currently operates 151 schools inGilgit-Baltistan and Chitral, providing education to over 27,000students, of which 54% are girls.
