Purpose of the role:

The F& E/WASH Coordinator oversees all Facial Cleanliness and Environmental Improvement/WASH activities in selected schools through School Led Total Sanitation (SLTS) approach in above mentioned intervention locations

Main Roles and Responsibilities:

· Start up, implement, and monitor Facial Cleanliness and Environment Improvement (F&E) activities appropriate to specific cadre of primary schools i.e. students, teachers and school management

· Facilitation of the School Led Total Sanitation (SLTS) approach through which F&E activities can be implemented

· Mobilization of the school management for participation in design, construction, operation, and maintenance of face washing station and latrines and WASH Club facilities and services in school

· Identification of key hygiene practices (gender sensitive) among students and teachers in selected schools to engage and outline an appropriate communications strategy to promote safe hygiene and sanitation practices

· Organize and facilitate training for school teachers on F&E tool kit to ensure that SLTS approach is understood and applied

· Establish WASH clubs in selected schools and design club activities implementation approaches, strategies and the overall strategy for sustainability of WASH clubs in schools.

· Organize and facilitate Behavior Change communication

· Draft and finalize operation and maintenance guidelines for F&E/WASH in Schools facilities throughout the district

· Distribute guidelines, Information, Education and Communication (IEC) material on Sanitation and hygiene for children less than 1-9 years’ old

· Establish and implement mobilization strategies for F&E/WASH interventions in Schools.

· Coordinate partners at different levels.

· Assess sanitation and hygiene behaviors practices in schools and provide training for schoolteachers and children on how to reduce transmission of Trachoma infection

· Involve the community in school F&E/WASH though parent-teacher associations and school management committees

· Regularly organize meetings with School Management committees to assess F&E progress in schools

· Integrate school and community sanitation and hygiene, and encourage children to become agents for change in their community

· Organize and participate in coordination meetings and share information with external stakeholders as appropriate

· Design and manage a plan to monitor activities, outputs and impact and recommend adaptations to the WASH implementation in schools as needed

· Conduct regular monitoring visits to schools and provide technical assistance as required

· Organize awareness raising campaigns (Seminar, health education sessions) in schools for behavior change and safe sanitation and hygiene practice

· Provide regular progress and financial reports reflecting lessons learned

· Ensure that all activities are in line with relevant standards, codes of conduct, and humanitarian principles and best practices

· Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with local government procedures (e.g. site selection) and do not duplicate or interfere with activities proposed or carried out by other NGOs
