As an Information Management & Associate Officer at Pakistan Humanitarian Forum (PHF), one of my first and main tasks was to rewrite my job description. Hence, I split my job responsibilities into two portions, internal communication and external communication.
• Internal communication includes daily media monitoring of Pakistani news channels and Ministry of Interior websites for any relevant news related to international NGOs operating in Pakistan. I look for any news, national or international, that would help in projecting government\'s legislation/action towards the INGOs or their registration issues (currently a challenge for INGOs in Pakistan). I keep an updated list of INGOs contributions to various PHF projects.
I also collect data of staff, projects and beneficiaries from INGOs operating in Pakistan and keep record of new projects they plan for specific geographic regions. This helps in successful coordination among the INGOs, donor agencies and government, etc.
• External communication includes keeping an updated list of head and focal persons of donor agencies operating in Pakistan and identifying projects they have funded, the scope of the projects, and the NGO/INGOs conducting the projects.
My responsibilities also include interaction with think tanks and research institutes in Pakistan and abroad for relevant development sector R&D reports. I am then expected to share the relevant facts and figures of the reports with the member INGOs.
I am also responsible to revamp the outdated PHF website and make it easy to navigate for users with ample information about the organization and its member INGOs.
I am also responsible to develop, create and be responsible for the publishing of any communication material of the organization including newsletters, bulletins, snapshots of INGOs work in Pakistan, event reports, letters to government officials, etc.
I also attend conferences, seminars, and corporate gatherings.
