Pakistan stands among group of developing countries. There is need to reduce carbon emission. Forests are the most important natural renewable source. They have prominent role in establishing environmental and climatic balance, global carbon cycle, carbon fluxes with atmosphere through different processes like photosynthesis and respiration. Forest produces wood, protects wildlife, maintain groundwater levels, protect the soil fertility, and absorb carbon and another pollutant gases from the atmosphere. All these forest functions influence the continuity of life and have global implications (Heri et al, 1999) as well. Biomass is defined as the dry weight of both aboveground biomass (AGB) and belowground biomass (BGB) living mass of vegetation, such as wood, bark, branches, twigs, stumps, or roots as well as dead mass of litter associated with the soil. Forest biomass act as an important indicator of carbon resources and sequestration in an ecosystem. Main purpose of this study is to evaluate this • Biomass estimation • Carbon stock estimation

Swat lies in the temperate Zone. The summer in lower Swat valley is short and moderate while it is cool and refreshing in the upper northern part. The hottest month is June with mean maximum and minimum temperature of 33°C and 16°C, respectively. The coldest month is January with mean maximum and minimum temperature of 11°C and -2°C, respectively. The winter season is long and extends from November to March, rain and snowfall occurs during this season. The amount of rainfall received during winter season is more than that of summer season. The highest rainfall recorded during the month of March is about 242 mm. Floods due to heavy rains along with droughts are major prevailing hazards in Swat to overcome that with hydrological modeling using GIS(HEC_HMS). Vegetation Change Detection Using Remote Sensing and GIS –A Case Study of L

Remote sensing technology in combination with geographic information system (GIS) can render reliable information on vegetation cover. The analysis of the spatial extent and temporal change of vegetation cover using remotely sensed data is of critical importance to agricultural sciences. Urban growth, in population has been a major factor which has altered natural vegetation cover, due to anthropogenic activities. The results of these have left signficant effects on local weather and climate. Change detection as depend by Hower (1978) is temporal effects as Variation in spectral response involves situations where the spectral characteristics of the vegetation or other cover type in a given location change over time. Vegetation change detection identities vegetative land cover changes over time. We will perform a vegetation change detection using Landsat TM imagery and interpret the results. For this will accomplish by assembling triplicate sets of three images from the 1990s, 2000s and 2015s so to facilitate analyses of change over time. Digital image processing of satellite data provides tools for analyzing the image through different algorithms and mathematical indices. Features are based on reluctance characteristics, and indices have been devised to highlight the features of interest on the image. There are several indices for highlighting vegetation bearing areas on a remote sensing scene. NDVI is a common and widely used index. It is an important vegetation index, widely applied in research on global environmental and climatic change .The use of remote sensing data in recent times has been of immense help in monitoring the changing pattern of vegetation. Vegetation cover map of 1990s, 2000s and 2015s, were crossed to generate the map of change of vegetation cover for the respective dates and to and out the changing pattern of vegetation cover.

Site selection is the process of finding locations that meet desired conditions set by the selection criteria, it is a complex process for owners and analysts because it involves not only technical requirements, but also economical, social and environmental demands.. Geographic Information System (GIS), assists in carrying out analysis by providing tools for the collection, processing and analysis of both vector and raster datasets required to find optimal sites for a new project i.e. Township in this case. This system needs to be run by well trained GIS developers and analysts as their insight on the field provides the basis for efficient results, which can be utilized for better decision-making. Weighted overlay, which is a GIS- based tool, enables us to overlay multiple reclassified raster surfaces and assign them weights, according to their importance in the site selection ; The combined weights of all the surfaces should not exceed 100%. The resultant output is a raster surface which indicates areas that meet the desired criteria. In this research, datasets that have been mentioned in the criteria include : slope data, elevation data, road network data, ground water-table data, land values data, land-use data and river data. These have been overlaid to find the resultant suitable map.
