Real time traffic performance study over MPLS VPN with Differentiated Serv

<p>In recent years, MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) VPNs (Virtual private network) technology has become one of the most important technologies in the service providers and large enterprises.</p> <p>MPLS VPNs are new substitutes to private WAN (Wide area network). This technology has various built in features and functions such as FEC, VRF, MPBGP, and VPN4 address and so on. They are getting very popular in Todays industry day by day. Enterprise customers are moving to service providers that offer MPLS VPNs. The main reason for this shifting is the capability of MPLS VPN to provide built in security features and full mesh connectivity.</p> <p>MPLS VPNs improved the network performance due to fast label switching as compare to traditional IP Forwarding but traffic classification and policing was still required on per hop basis to enhance the performance of real time traffic which is delay sensitive (particularly voice and video).</p> <p>QoS (Quality of service) is the most important factor to prioritize enterprise networks’ real time traffic such as voice and video. In this thesis, QoS parameters (e.g. Round Trip Time, jitter and MOS) will be studied for the real time traffic over MPLS VPNs.</p> <p>The DiffServ (Differentiated Services) QoS model will be used over MPLS VPN network to get end-to-end service quality. Two scenarios will be studied with and without DiffServ model. Then the statistics of jitter, packet loss and MOS of both scenarios will be collected and compared to prove that real time traffic performance increases by implementing DiffServ QoS model.</p>
