Position: Children’s Club Consultant

ABOUT RI:        

Relief International specializes in relief and development programs that benefit people in acute distress. A registered non-profit in the US, UK, France and Belgium, our work targets those fragile countries or communities that suffer from recurrent man-made or natural crises that impede human development. The people that we serve live in seventeen countries across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia where the debilitating effects of political instability, forced displacement, and natural disasters are pervasive. Often, RI is the only organization providing healthcare, education, logistics, energy, capacity building, economic development, sanitation, and many other forms of assistance to these highly vulnerable communities.

Relief International (RI) is a humanitarian, non-profit, non-sectarian agency that provides emergency relief, rehabilitation, and development services throughout the world. RI operates countries across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East and has extensive past performance providing humanitarian and development programming. RI’s goal is to empower the most vulnerable communities to develop lasting solutions to their most pressing challenges and to build an environment that creates permanent well-being.      

Rationale of Consultancy

To support children’s physical and mental wellbeing in schools, RI will establish children’s clubs in target schools. The clubs aim to support the development of children’s life skills, healthy living and develop their understanding of gender discrimination. The clubs are expected to promote and support integration and social cohesion between host and refugee’s children, through joint activities and games. Activities will include following:

i)   Training teachers in club facilitation;

ii)  Providing equipment and resources to clubs;

iii) Healthy living practices (teeth cleaning, hand washing and self-care) in liaison with health posts;

iv) Taking care of the local environment (litter, waste management);

v)   Sports / games

Each club will be run for 60 students and facilitated by a facilitator / teacher according to INEE standards in target schools. Awareness on COVID-19 and preventive measures will be included in health information and training.

RI will engage a consultant who will be responsible for preparing the children club’s facilitator manual including modules and activities to be carried out and guidance notes for the facilitator, developing IEC material for club activities and conducting ToT of teacher and staff. In addition, the consultant will make recommendations for efficient management of the children’s club, including establishing the management structure, definition of selection criteria of club members, and elaboration and use of practical administrative tools.  (Reporting, record keeping etc.)

 Methodology and Approach

  • The consultant will design children’s club facilitator manual (including modules and activities to be carried out and guidance notes for the facilitator) comprised of relevant modules
  • The qualified candidate will be required to provide a wide range of topics under life skills sessions for children’s club, such as healthy habits, hygiene best practices including hand washing, work readiness, communication skills etc. 
  • The activities should be designed to promote active engagement and participation of all children, and should therefore be gender responsive and inclusive (for example, ensuring that activities are adapted for children with disabilities and/or include recommendations for adaptation).
  • The manuals should be culturally sensitive particularly in the use of names, settings, terms and examples. At the same time, the manuals must not include gender stereotypes or any sort of discriminatory examples.
  • The manuals should be structured in modules that are to be covered daily (1 to 2 hours) over a period of 2 weeks with relevant fun activities.
  • The candidate will design IEC material for children’s club. The trainees will be oriented on these IEC material during the training session.
  • Consultant will share the draft manual for review and approval. After revision, he/she will share final manual.
  • Based on finally agreed draft of manual, and approved ToT objectives, agenda and schedule, the consultant will train club’s facilitators (02 teachers per target school)
  • The consultant will provide a list of recommended equipment, items and resources for the clubs.
  • All activities to be undertaken under the consultancy must adhere strictly to RI COVID-19 guidelines and SoPs.

Time line

The consultant will have a total of 18-20 working days to deliver the required tasks.

Deliverables

  • The consultancy work-plan including the methodology.
  • Facilitator manual including modules and activities to be carried out and guidance notes for the facilitator.
  • Provide necessary templates for reporting and record keeping.
  • Soft copies of IEC materials for children’s club. The IEC material should be related to children club activities and sessions
  • List of equipment’s and resources for children’s clubs.
  • Deliver 02 days training of Club facilitators in target schools
  • Submit a detailed final report highlighting all the results and outcomes of the assignment including training of trainers’ evaluation. 

Note: due to the urgency of hiring, applicants would be shortlisted on rolling basis.
