Medical Doctor / Physician

To ensure quality medical care for all pediatric and neonatology in-patients & out-patients. Train, coach and supervise the medical doctors in each location using MSF protocols & guidelines. Empower the medical doctors in order to ensure continuity of care.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise, coach and train MD team and multidisciplinary team.
Ensure MD’s in the projects maintain patients’ safety and good quality of care.
Ensure MD’s in the projects will apply medical knowledge and skills to diagnose patients appropriately, ensure regular reviews of patients and ensure patients are managed according to MSF protocols.
Ensure knowledge of up to date MSF protocols & guidelines and give input/advice where necessary re any possible changes to these.
Advise consultants and medical officers in project in the management of difficult cases and/or advise referrals to other facilities where appropriate after consultation with expat pediatrician
Participating in emergencies and on calls if necessary.
Ensure MD’s in the projects keep the patient and his/her family informed about the illness, that parents understand and have realistic expectations about treatments and outcomes (including palliative care where applicable)
Provide input in reporting of any possible outbreak of diseases to the Expat Pediatrician, Medical Team Leaders and Medical Coordinator.
Assist Medical Team Leader /Medical Coordinator in communication about public health issues with MOH & DOH
Provide input to expat pediatrician & MTLs on medical doctor’s performance - according to MSF HR policies and procedures, supervising their performance and promoting regular evaluations.
Conduct checks and control on the rational distribution of MSF medicines & ensures no prescriptions for medicines outside of MSF formulary
Participate in /provide input into the collection and analysis of epidemiological/medical data, checking its validity and giving sound recommendations.
Assist in reviewing & reporting of all mortality cases on a monthly basis to co-ordination team in order to highlight areas requiring improvement/investment
Ensure no action or omission on his/her part places the patient at risk, including referring to others when she has reached the limit of his/her experience. Further to this she/he should aim to uphold good medical practice & update his/her knowledge regularly by reading and training.
Respect the rights of the patients and caretakers in his/her care to be informed before any procedure or medication is given and the right to decline care or treatment, and the right to have a female family member for support
