JOB SUMMARY (Overall purpose of the job):

The incumbent will take forward the community/clinical programs (Nursing) of AKHS,P and will provide technical support in programs planning, development, monitoring and supportive supervision to regions to strengthen the community/clinical programs and medical services across AKHS,P.

a. REGULAR DUTIES / RESPONSIBLITIES

Undertake strategic planning of nursing in all the community and clinical units of AKHS,P:

·        Enhance nursing quality assurance program through policies, procedures and regular clinical audits to evaluate clinical practice and maintain ISO certification.

·        Enhance nursing practice through protocols, standards and guidelines

·        Develop policies in coordination with HR related to nursing staff working hours, transfer and posting.

·        Facilitate regions in addressing nursing staff issues i.e. staff safety, accommodation, compensation, working hours, transfer and posting in order to ensure appropriate nursing practice outcome

·        Develop nursing indicators to improve nursing practices and assist the departmental head in managing and directing activities for the provision of quality care.

·        Strengthen infection control program and clinical risk management and review and improve the nursing process and it’s documentation across AKHS,P

·        Develop and ensure staffing policy for standard nurse patient ratio in a clinical / community setting according to patient acuity.

·        Develop and review nursing job description as and when required and act as a change agent in restructuring nursing roles in AKHS,P.

Develop homogeneous nursing capacity building program across AKHS,P:

·        Assist in recruitment, promotion and retention of nursing staff.

·        Identify opportunities for nurses to acquire professional / higher education.

·        Facilitate and encourage staff for continuing professional education / training.

·        Assist in nursing accreditation through Pakistan Nursing Council and maintain staff nursing credentials on regular basis.

Collaborate and develop links with other government and health agencies / institutions and funded programs:

·        Develop nursing linkages with AKDN, government, and health NGOs and liaison with SNEB for midwifery training and examination..

·        Participate in national and international conferences and seminars to replicate and bench mark national and / or international hospitals to observe evidence based nursing care.

Strengthen midwifery/ nursing training programs across AKHS,P

·        Develop polices for School of Midwifery (SOM) and produce competent midwives by effectively ensuring the midwifery/ nursing diploma-training programs.

·        Enrich midwifery curriculum according to midwifery standards at AKHS,P and coordinate with national Committee for maternal health to enhance midwifery training program offered by AKHS,P.

 

·        To perform any other work assigned by the supervisor.

Position Specification (Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience):

Education:

BSc Nursing degree holder from any recognized nursing school

Experience, Skills and Competencies:

Must have experience of at least 5 years in the management position of nursing.

·        Must be knowledgeable of current practices in hospital nursing, administration and management.

·        Should be able to apply knowledge of theory into practice.

·        A natural leader with presence and stature, able to forge partnerships, build trust and command respect.

·        Strong consensus-building, interpersonal skills, backed by excellent people management, communication and negotiating skills

·        A team player, strong networking skills, backed by excellent people management skills who can work with a very diverse and demanding stakeholders i.e. Board of Directors, Head of AKDN institutions.
