Senior Site Reliability Engineer

Background  

Pakistan is faced with a housing shortage of 10 million currently growing by 1 million every year. The population, 80% without a bank account, has been starved off house financing solutions for years. Pakistan’s housing finance-GDP ratio is one of the lowest in the world – 0.25% (South Asia: 3%, Bangladesh: 3%, India: 11%).   

Trellis’ mission is to fill this gap by providing affordable green mortgage solutions to low and middle-income groups in Pakistan. This is expected to significantly boost financial inclusion, homeownership and economic activity in the country. The senior management team has a combined experience of over 50 years in international banking, hedge funds, capital markets and financial technology. 

As a new company, we need self-motivated, driven generalists with senior-level experience. For driven individuals, this role provides a unique opportunity to grow rapidly and work with many types of technologies. We will heavily rely on cloud-native, open source technologies with the intent to give back and make a difference. In addition to supporting our business needs, you will have the chance to have a public impact on multiple open source communities making technology more accessible to all. 

Primary Responsibilities 

As the first member of our cloud operations team, you will be laying the groundwork for long term success. You will take responsibility for administration for all of our cloud infrastructure, applications, and databases. As we get set up, you will also assist with the administration of some SaaS offerings (e.g. Office 365, JIRA). As we build up our analytics and data science practice, you will assist with the operationalization of the data pipelines, analytics infrastructure, and machine learning models produced by our risk team.   

As we grow, there will be opportunities to specialize and/or to move into leadership roles.  

• Responsible for the deployment, maintenance, and monitoring of our cloud infrastructure (e.g. Linux VMs, Docker containers, MySQL databases, web applications, VPN servers)  
• Automate CI/CD pipelines from git to AWS 
• Diagnose, debug and document issues in both applications and systems.   
• Work under limited supervision with considerable latitude for personal initiative.  
• Automate monitoring, maintenance and support related tasks  
• Lead the planning and implementation of all aspects of database backups and disaster recovery 
• Minimal on-call will be required initially as our business primarily operates during the workday. 

Skills and Experience 

• 5+ years of experience as a system administrator, DevOps Engineer, SRE, or equivalent 
• Experience operating the following in production: 

-MySQL databases 

-Docker containers 

-AWS (e.g. EC2, ECS, RDS, RedShift) 

-Linux (Ubuntu, RHEL/Centos)

-Tomcat 

• Must be AWS certified associate or professional 
• Production experience with Terraform or other IaC technology 
• Practical experience with git, Jenkins, or equivalent 
• Proficiency in bash, Python, Java, or JavaScript 
• Experience managing and troubleshooting Java applications 
• Experience with carrying out security audits and penetration testing on internal and external systems 
• Strong written, verbal and organizational skills (English) 
• Experience working with geographically distributed teams
