Position Summary:

Read copy and transcripts and check to make sure that there are no spelling, grammatical or typographical errors. Should be well versed and well experienced in using Chicago Manual of Style.

Major Responsibilities:

· Involves correcting grammatical and spelling errors (as per American English), looking at the work and fixing any problems with style and tone.

· Will do fact-checks as well, making sure that everything in the text is accurate and true.

· Will be in charge of making sure that the text of any manuscript that involves writing (such as magazines, newspapers and books) is free of any errors, whilst ensuring that texts are engaging and accessible to the readers.

· May commission work to freelance proof-readers.

Skillset Required:

· Editorial Skills: You should have an excellent grammar and spelling skills and understand what the author is trying to signify. You should also have a good imagination and visual sense. Good IT skills including knowledge of word processing will be preferable. You should be well-versed in using different grammar styles but Chicago Manual of Style will be preferred.

· Attention to Detail: The devil is in the details. A qualified proof-reader will need to be able to analyze complex plans, and be able to identify mistakes and errors in a given syntax.

· Critical Thinking Skills: You must be able to think quickly, often solving problems as they arise. Being able to think critically about these situations will help you a great deal.

· Organizational Skills: You will need to do many things at once, keep track of your time, and keep tabs on multiple projects.

· Communication Skills: You need to have strong communication skills, since you would often work closely with other production personnel.
