The  Sr. Director of Academics will have both institutional and local responsibility. As such he/she is accountable for:

  • The academic leadership of the unit ensuring its objectives are aligned to Faculty and organizational strategy.

  • The effective governance and management of the  unit to ensure its performance continually improves

Key Areas/Responsibilities

  • Develop and encourage a shared vision for the future direction, goals and priorities of the Institute, aligned to DIP’s mission and in the context of the faculty and other academic units;

  • Prepare, for PDR purposes, an annual report of progress in research, engagement, curriculum and teaching;

  • Maintain and enhance the academic reputation of the institute;

  • Work with Chief of Staff to foster the development of outstanding research, research training and academic programmes;

  • Monitor and evaluate the unit’s research, engagement and teaching activities in relation to comparable units both within and outside the Institute.

  • Manage, administer and foster excellence in the engagement and teaching activities;

  • Establish and maintain communication with the board and appropriate parties and networks within the faculty and the broader organization;

  • Represent the organization’s interests in the faculty, institute, professional, industry and government contexts.

  • Play a major role in the recruitment, selection and induction of the instructors, utilising a targeted recruitment approach where appropriate to appoint academic staff of the highest calibre;

  • Facilitate and promote effective communication and positive morale within the teaching staff.

  • Take responsibility for the completion of distributing teaching, and curriculum management duties in an equitable manner, taking into account where possible the agreed on career development plans of the faculty member;

  • Developing curriculum with the help of faculty, board, and other staff.

  • Networking and building professional relationships with members of the institution and the community.

  • Monitoring the progress of new and existing teaching methods.

  • Closely evaluating results at the end of each quarter and writing up progress reports.

  • Monitoring all faculty recruitment and vetting prospective instructors.

  • Master's degree in Education Administration or a related field.

  • Teaching certification and previous teaching experience

  • The ability to multitask

  • First-class organizational skills.

  • The ability to use tact and diplomacy in interactions with all relevant parties.

  • A strong ethical code.

  • Maintain a positive attitude and be open to feedback.

  • Working at a strategic level – sees the big picture and is an analytic thinker.

  • Able to manage complex problems and issues.

  • Leading change – recognizes the need for change and is forward-looking.

  • Engages others – communicates with colleagues effectively and can persuade and influence others.
