DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Responsible for the Nutrition Programme
• Supervision
• Respect of the criteria for admission and exit
• Correct filling of the individual cards and the attendance register
• Quality of medical care provided : drugs distribution, correct application of the medical protocols ; clinical follow-up, re-hydration, early detection of the medical complications
• Ensure food distribution is in the correct quantities
• Nutritional follow-up : correct measurements and follow-up of the weight and edema
• Respect of the dignity of the patients and their accompanying
• Resolution of problems occurring between the patients and the staff
• To ensure that mothers are well informed about the functioning of the centre ; the state and evolution of their child
• Check the cleaning of the centre.
• Specific Nutrition responsibilities
• To accurately take the MUAC of the patients
• To accurately take the weight and height of the patients
• To properly check edema and if + to refer the patient to the TFC
• To weekly take the weight of all the children and the height monthly
• To properly record the measurements on the individual card of the patient
• To inform the caregivers and the patients on the weight of the patient (increase, status quo, or loss)
• To inform the nutrition manager about the weight evolution of their patients, especially in the case of children who have lost weight.
• Patients and their relatives are given necessary health education.
• Ensure that all the patients and relative are given enough health education and health promotion

Objective 1

Rapid/detailed assessment of infant and Young Child feeding practices in mothers/care givers at Basic Health Units (BHUs)

Tasks & responsibilities

Conduct Simple Rapid Assessment (SRA) of all mothers with children under 24 months that attend the OTP/SFP programme through the local Basic Health Units (BHUs).
Conduct detailed assessment of child feeding practices in women that require additional support or reveal difficulties.
Maintain clear communication with all other CMAM programme staff regarding the status of beneficiaries, including OTP nurse, supervisor and community mobilizers.
Objective 2

Counselling the pregnant women for the preparation of Breastfeeding and colostrum feeding. One to One tailored IYCF counselling sessions to all mothers with children under 24 months.

Tasks & responsibilities

Provide the Pregnant women with preparatory counselling for breast feeding and colostrums feeding, to ensure prevention of pre-lacteal feeds and bottle feeding.
Counseling the mothers on good maternal nutrition during pregnancy and lactation.
Provide tailored one to one counseling sessions, based on initial assessments, offering practical advice and education to mothers on the key issues of infant and Young child feeding practices.
Ensure all mothers/care givers are aware of the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for the initial 6 months.
Support the mothers suffering from insufficient milk production with advice on re-lactation.
Discourage and educate mothers on the dangers of feeding bottles by exchanging used bottles for cups and spoons provided by ACF.
Provide mothers with practical advice on correct attachment and positioning when breastfeeding, timely introduction of complementary foods and respond to any concerns or local taboos associated with IYCF.

Distribute Hygiene Kits
A hygiene promoter does his best to support ongoing hygiene practices in a community by distributing hygiene kits to residents. These kits include basic items one needs to stay fresh and clean. Items often include products like soap, a toothbrush, toothpaste,adhesive strips, nail clippers and other relevant products. He also helps educate families on stores where they can replenish these items for a low-cost, when they run out.

Coordinate Disease Prevention Efforts
Not only does a hygiene promoter help to improve the personal cleanliness of the group of people she’s working with, she does her best to teach them ways to prevent the spread of common sicknesses and diseases. For example, she may teach people how diarrhea is contracted and show them how to prevent the spread of this sickness. She might also teach them ways to properly care for loved ones who have contracted diarrhea. If other sicknesses like cholera are widespread in the area, she may provide education on spotting this illness, ways to provide treatment and tips to actively prevent future cases.
