Prepare Calculations
Before completing technical drawings and designing machines, the Mechanical Designer must first prepare calculations on the proposed machine. They calculate things like tolerance, dimensions and thermal and structural analysis. Using these calculations, they are able to develop effective mechanical designs.
Create Technical Drawings
Typically using AutoCAD software, Mechanical Designers sketch and draw up designs using input from engineers and architects on their team. They work on preliminary designs as well as final designs. Revise Existing Products
While Mechanical Designers create drawings for new products, their job often involves revising the designs for existing products as well. They use customer feedback and data to upgrade, improve or repair the company’s existing machines.

Mechanical Designers submit their drawings to upper management and construction teams, but their work is not done there. Along with the engineering team, the Mechanical Designer will provide support during the building and installation process, ensuring that the machine is being built properly and according to design specifications.
