OVERVIEW OF POSITION

Action Against Hunger is a globally renowned organization in taking innovative approaches to reduction of hunger and malnutrition.  As an organisation focused on ending world hunger, Action Against Hunger is primarily focused in Pakistan on ending nutrition insecurity both by addressing immediate and underlying causes. Action Against Hunger considers Government of Pakistan as an ultimate stakeholder when it comes to dealing with reduction of hunger and malnutrition in all its form. In this regards, Action Against Hunger consider it necessary that the key stakeholders have profound understanding of the framework in which we are working, be able to provide workable solutions to the government in an advisory role, advise on improvements to the frameworks/policies from a technical perspective and support review of implementation of policies by the Government.

 

The position of Senior Comm, Visibility & Reporting Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing a communications strategy for Programme for Improved Nutrition in Sindh (PINS), Pakistan Mission. The Senior Comm, Visibility & Reporting Manager will be responsible for reporting, documenting and filing all project internal and external reporting and communication. She/he will develop graphic designs, infographic and edit program products for external audiences and assist in developing and populating the PINS website along with overseeing the development and delivery of on-site communications training for field offices. Responsibilities of the Senior Comm, Visibility & Reporting Manager will include press and media engagement and assuring quality control of all communications and visibility related products.  S/he will work closely with the BCC and programme teams supporting arrangement and hosting of events.

This is a Karachi based position and will require extensive travel throughout Sindh.

OBJECTIVES

Objective 1

To lead in development of communication strategy in line with EU Communication and Visibility guidelines, GoS and Action Against Hunger’s Pakistan Strategy

Tasks & responsibilities

·         To lead in development of a comprehensive Programme for improved Nutrition in Sindh (PINS) communication strategy and plan in line with EU Communication and Visibility guidelines, Government of Sindh and Action Against Hunger’s Pakistan Country Strategy;

·         Engage BCC and other technical positions in the development of the C&V strategy and plan;

·         Develop creative concepts for PINS communication strategy and plan implementation;

·         Close liaise with senior management, Programme department, COP, and PINS field team while developing the communications strategy and plans;

·         Stay up to date in donor and GoS rules and regulations related to Communication and Visibility.

Objective 2

To lead implementation of PINS Communication and plan and Graphic designing of IEC/visibility material

Tasks & responsibilities

·         Lead in the development of key communication materials, such as designing and finalization of case studies, Visibility and IEC material, human interest stories, Annual Reports etc.;

·         Responsible for Infographic and graphic design of IEC and other visibility material for use in media products such as newsletter, posters, banners, labels, advertising and signage etc.

·         Provide support in identifying, developing and disseminating evidence based media and outreach products for key stakeholders by ensuring uniform language, style sheet, syntax, formatting for the program;

·         Lead role in identifying, engaging, and networking with print and electronic media for properly showcasing the PINS achievement in print and electronic media;

·         Regular engagement with Journalist to collect the human interest stories from field and ensure its publishing in newspapers;

·         Regularly update PINS website content with strategically chosen content and pictures (in-line with EU, GoS and Action Against Hunger branding and communications policies);

·         Set up and maintain social media platforms for the PINS Programme;

·         Assist in the development, filing and cataloguing of program documents i.e. work-plans, contracts, meeting minutes and program reporting;

·         Provide support to Senior BCC manager and programme team in development of IEC materials (manuals, posters, etc.) and others;

·         Primary responsible for setup and implementation of archive system for PINS programme communication documents (internal and external);

Objective 3

To ensure the program quality reporting for donor and HQ

Tasks & responsibilities

·         Lead for PINS ER-2 information and reporting needs;

·         Coordinate with PINS field team and all partners regularly to collect information and prepare the final monthly, quarterly and annual reports for onward submission to Pakistan Mission and HQ.

·         Use information from program activities, reports and field reporting to compile quick results information products on program status and impact, including success stories, situational reports, Ad-Hoc and management reports;

·         Report program status and impact to a number of stakeholders including Govt. of Sindh, Donor and HQ through a variety of formats as and when required;

·         Regular update of reporting calendar and maintaining follow-up with team for timely finalization of reports;

·         Provide editorial support, critical inputs and analysis into draft reporting submitted from multiple departments and partners and ensure the quality and presentation of reports shared externally;

·         Provide regular mentorship and guidance to field staff to ensure quality reporting;

·         Organize periodic training session with project team on effective report writing;

·         Review quality of all English version final reporting products prior to release.

·         Travel to the field sites as needed to support program reporting

Objective 4

To lead preparation and use of visibility materials

Tasks & responsibilities

·         Maintain an up to date and varied store of photos and videos;

·         Ensure correct use of logos including on procured items;

·         Ensure visibility of EU, GoS and Action Against hunger in all print and electronic documents;

·         Maintain framework agreements with printers, publishers, photographers or other visibility related contractors;

·         Prepare any materials required for events in line with visibility requirements of EU, GoS and Action Against Hunger.

Objective 5

To support in capacity development related to C&V across the PINS Programme

Tasks & responsibilities

·         Provide relevant training and orientation to PINS field teams and partners on implementation of PINS communication and Visibility strategy, including training content development and creating guidance documents for case studies, human interest stories, etc.;

·         Expertly coordinate with a wide range of stakeholders for arranging meetings / consultative sessions as and when required;

Objective 6 (Gender)

To ensure inclusion across departmental work and within/by the team

Tasks & responsibilities

·          Support mission level qualification for gender marker;

·          Encourage inclusion within recruitment, training and promotion;

·          Ensure inclusion within departmental planning, implementation and reporting.

Objective 7

To oversee all project development functions in Karachi

·          Support other tasks related to project development, reporting and communications/visibility as assigned;

·          Conduct and oversee internal coordination;

·          Manage working group minuting, scheduling and arrangements;

·          Support revisions and proposal work as required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Mandatory

·         Master Degree in Mass Communications, Social Sciences or other relevant discipline with at least 7 years of overall experience and 5 years’ relevant experience in communications and visibility related positions. OR Bachelor's degree in relevant field with minimum 09 years overall experience and with 07 years in communications and visibility related positions in development sector;

·         Excellent IT skills, especially with design and photo-editing software, adobe reader, Photoshop etc.

·         Exceptional creativity and innovation

·         Good communication skills, fluent in English (professional English needed);

·         Excellent drafting and writing skills, able to represent Action Against Hunger;

·         Ability to write various types of high quality communications material (case stories, IEC material, posters, flyers, brochures etc.);

·         Good understanding of humanitarian/development issues in Pakistan;

·         A high level of creative ability including competence in creative computer applications;

·         Proficient in MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, MS Word, Outlook, and creative applications;

·         Willing to travel to the field on occasion.
