Leave No Girl Behind Project context:

Given the large number of out-of-school girls (OOS) in Pakistan, ACTED has planned an integrated education program through non-formal based education system, which aims to address simultaneously the physical, qualitative, socio-cultural, family/community and systemic barriers to children's access. Over a period of 4 years (December 2018 November 2022), ACTED, in coordination with the consortium partners, will target the Sind (Jacobabad and Kashmore districts) and FATA areas (Mehmund and Bajour agencies), reaching a total of 5,500 beneficiaries, including 4,400 girls who have never been at school and 1,100 girls who gave up. Multiple cohorts of accelerated learning programs (ALPs), literacy and numeracy training, and skills training will be facilitated, complemented by community demand generation activities.

LNGB project focuses on girls’ education, learning and transitions to mainstream for sustainable gear and strengthened communities for girls’ learning. The impacts towards girls’ mainstream transition and communities’ acceptance and actions are inevitable parts of this project. For said purpose evaluations studies are to be carried out to measure the main impacts of project.

Purpose of the Consultancy:

Health screening of adolescent girl’s aged between 10 to 19 years at each learning centre in rural areas of Kashmore and Jacobabad. The total target of screening is 5500 spread over a period of 03 years in both districts. These beneficiaries will be enrolled in altogether 170 centres.

The purpose is to identify any health matters of girls that might affect their learning process. Consultant is expected to screen health of girl for allergies, breathing, HIV, menstrual health, nutrition status, anti-natal and post-natal check-ups, skin disease, mental disabilities, eye sight, hearing, any other physical disability and prescribe treatment, assistance or referral to specialists. The screening especially aims to focus on girls with disabilities.

  • The total target of screening for this cohort is 2700 girls approximately enrolled in 80 learning centres across both districts.

  • Equipment for health screening will be provided by ACTED.
  • The screening especially aims to focus on girls with disabilities. 

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Design health assessment template to asses of girls of age 10 to 19 years of age. (80 centres to be assessed. Approximate enrolment – 2600 adolescent girls) 
  • Design patient referral guidelines and template in coordination with project manager
  • Conduct health assessment of every learner/girl in community based learning centres
  • Provide input on Acted developed referral form for referred girls detailing all the relevant assessment results based on physical observation
  • To maintain record of all the examined learners center wise
  • Suggest health related safety measures

Teams of engagement:

  • The incumbent will be responsible to visit all the centers
  • The fee will be paid after submission of satisfactory report after verification of Project Manager
  • The consultant will be provided official pick and drop from home to field areas.
  • The engagement will be undertaken on a cohort-to-cohort wise approach over a period of 2 months.

Coordination:

  • Coordinate with ACTED Management, Project Manager, Area Coordinator and project team for task completion

ACTED SOPs:

  • Good understanding of child safeguarding/protection/inclusion issues in Pakistan. Particularly for girls.
  • Good fluency in Sindhi language and good interpersonal, communication, motivation and presentation skills.

Required Qualifications:

  • MBBS/Nusring (4 years) certified from Pakistan Medical Council (PMC) with minimum two-years of experience as general physician having experience in pediatric nursing with a recognized hospital/institution.
