Project Objective:

Adolescent and Adult Learning and Training Program (AALTP), for adolescents and adults who have missed an opportunity to avail education. The AALTP aims to provide accelerated formal primary education for vulnerable adolescents and basic functional literacy for adults together with a certified Skill Development / Vocational Training course for each learner for enabling them with varying opportunities of human capital development and socio economic growth.

Assignment

The Head Teacher would be based at AALTP Center Badani and would be responsible for overall center management both academically as well as administratively. S/he will ensure to continue quality learning environment along with mentioned TORs.

Functions

Project Implementation

The Job holder will be responsible to report on programme functioning according to standard requirements of this role. The incumbent will be responsible to identify programme gaps vis challenges, barriers in enrolment, attendance, course, retention and transitioning, and share the findings with supervisor. Ensure safeguarding for learners (girls), implement ACTED’ zero tolerance policy.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support and assist the AALTP Center in meeting the overall objectives and the needs of individual learner. Provide leadership, direction, and co-ordination within the A   ALTP Center.
  • Develop and maintain effective educational programs within AALTP Center and to promote the improvement of teaching and learning within AALTP Center. The Head Teacher should strive to create an organization and or climate which fosters student and teacher growth.
  • The duties of the AALTP Center Head Teacher are all encompassing as all aspects of the AALTP Centers operations are either directly or indirectly under his/her jurisdiction. In general terms of the Head Teacher shall be responsible for: (a) the detailed organization of the AALTP Center; (b) the development of the instructional program; (c) the assignment of duties to and the supervision of members of his staff and; (d) the general operation of the AALTP Center facility.
  • Keep informed of current practices and techniques relating to AALTP Center programs, teaching and administration by attending meetings and professional development conferences, and reading professional materials.
  • When not involved in teaching duties, to devote as much time as possible to the supervision of the AALTP Center; observing methods of instruction and endeavouring to improve the efficiency of the staff and the AALTP Center in general.
  • Develop and support a high degree of student morale through curricular and extracurricular activities and services and co-ordinate the participation of all members of the teaching staff in the extracurricular program.
  • Be responsible for the preparation of timetable, class lists and schedules along with timely and effectively completion of courses.
  • Hold regular staff meetings for the purpose of discussing educational and administrative matters.
  • Be responsible for the proper registration and transfer of learners in the AALTP Center and for the maintenance of up-to-date student cumulative records along with maintenance of all relevant record within AALTP Center.
  • Establish appropriate procedures for the control of all AALTP Center textbooks, materials, equipment, etc.
  • As building administrator the Head Teacher is responsible for the daily supervision of the AALTP Center, its learners, facilitators, professional and support staff, volunteers, and personnel from outside agencies.
  • To have disciplinary authority and be responsible over each student while on AALTP Center premises, while going to and from AALTP Center and while taking part in authorized AALTP Center activities.
  • Ensure and maintain proper attendance of learner along with follow up meetings with parents and communities in relate to any long absent learner and ensure to prevent dropout of learner.
  • Regular Parent-Teacher Association meeting regarding center updates, progress, community-based issues and their solutions.
  • Develop and foster a sense of pride and respect for AALTP Center property so that the facility is an attractive place.
  • Establish procedures whereby the access of visitors to the AALTP Center can be monitored and controlled. This would include access by salespersons, guest speakers and former learners.

Technical Leadership:

The incumbent will lead on learners’ learning outcomes and ensure full compliance as per AALTP requirements.

Required Qualifications :

Minimum BA, MA/B.Ed/M.Ed Bachelor will be preferred 

Preferred

  • Good experience of working with SMC`s/PTC`s/ Communities, teachers and students for ensuring retention, attendance and consistency of education process.
  • Good understanding of challenges involved in implementing education and or non-formal education programmes for adolescent girls.
  • Good understanding of child safeguarding/protection issues in Pakistan. Particularly for girls.
  • Previous experience of working in education or non-formal education in Pakistan.
  • Excellent Sindhi language skills and good interpersonal, communication, motivation and presentation skills.
