The candidate will be responsible for overall academic matters; meeting the standards of quality education in all AKES,P schools in the region in coordination with RSDUs and the Regional Office; managing and increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of supervising departments (EMIS, ICT, ECD, Examination, PD and English Language Coordinator) through improvements to each function, as well as for coordination and communication between the functions; short-term and long-term planning, including initiatives geared toward academic excellence in coordination with functional unit heads; helping academic teams to effectively develop and implement on-going professional development plans for teachers and head teachers/school heads/in-charge teachers with the ultimate objective to add value to students learning; monitoring the internal and external examination process and providing the necessary support to the examination team by reviewing and refining the examination papers and by contributing to the improvement of the assessment system; coordinating with AKU-EB and KIU-EB for smooth conduct of SSC and HSSC examinations and registration processes; ensuring professional and technical support to British Council project schools as well as any other programmes adding value to students learning in Gilgit Baltistan; Ensuring effective utilization of the existing/proposed budget with respect to departmental needs.
Aga Khan Education Service, Pakistan (AKES,P) is a network of educational institutions that combines the operation of 159 schools and 5 hostels with the management of programmes to enhance the quality of teachers, academic resources and learning environments in Pakistan through community partnerships and long-term interventions. It is one of the largest third-sector networks of educational institutions in Pakistan and part of an international network of over 200 schools spread in 8 countries of the world under the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). Reaching out to the remotest areas of the country, AKES,P has been providing quality education in the region for the past 110 years. It is a direct provider of education for nearly 36,000 students from pre-primary to higher secondary levels and facilitates access to higher education through the provision of scholarships, hostels and other educational support services.With more than 2,000 employees, of whom over 1,500 areteachers, AKES,P is also supported by over 2,000 volunteers. In Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral, the first AKES,P schools were setup in the 1940s; since then they have contributed significantly toincreasing the literacy rates and social development in theremote, mountainous, harsh and ecologically fragile regions ofNorthern Pakistan. AKES,P currently operates 151 schools inGilgit-Baltistan and Chitral, providing education to over 27,000students, of which 54% are girls. Through these efforts, AKES,Pis continuing to play a critical role in women’s development inthe region. In the Southern Region, AKES,P operates four schools in Karachi,three in Hyderabad and rural Sindh and one in Hafizabad,Punjab, with over 8,900 students. All AKES,P schools follow theNational Curriculum but place special emphasis on the teachingof English, Mathematics, Science and the increasing use ofInformation and Communication Technologies (ICT).
