Al Shifa Trust Eye Hospital is seeking a skilled Scrub Nurse (Operation Theater) to join their surgical team. The ideal candidate has comprehensive knowledge of surgical instrument handling, operating room protocols, and patient safety. This role requires a professional who can maintain aseptic techniques and ensure seamless communication within the surgical team throughout various procedures. The nurse must demonstrate expertise in emergency response and effectively assist surgeons by preparing and managing instruments during operations. Although this position does not involve team management responsibilities, it demands high levels of concentration, professionalism, and the ability to perform under pressure.
Candidates must hold an F.Sc (Pre-Medical) qualification, accompanied by either a General Nursing Diploma with 3 years of experience or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). A minimum of 1 to 2 years of direct experience as a scrub or operation theater nurse is essential. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS) and a strong understanding of infection control, sterilization processes, and aseptic techniques are mandatory. The successful candidate must also demonstrate excellent communication skills and the capability to operate effectively in critical and fast-paced surgical environments.
Responsibilities
- Prepare the operating theater for surgical procedures by ensuring the availability and sterilization of all necessary instruments and supplies.
- Assist surgeons by efficiently handling surgical instruments and maintaining a sterile environment throughout operations.
- Perform surgical scrubbing and aid in donning surgical attire following strict aseptic techniques.
- Continuously monitor the surgical environment to uphold patient safety, preventing any contamination or infection risks.
- Communicate clearly and promptly with the surgical team to coordinate actions and respond to immediate needs during operations.
- Identify and assemble surgical instruments accurately before and during various surgical procedures.
- Respond swiftly to emergencies within the operating room by following established protocols and providing necessary support.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of operating room protocols, sterilization processes, and infection control measures.
- Document surgical procedures and instrument usage accurately to ensure compliance with hospital regulations.
- Perform routine checks on surgical equipment, reporting any malfunctions or safety concerns promptly.
- Participate in regular training sessions and continuous education to enhance technical skills and stay current with surgical advancements.
- Adhere strictly to workplace policies, including occupational health and safety standards and patient confidentiality regulations.
