Embedded Linux Developer

Asentria is a US based developer and marketer of monitoring and control systems for cell towers and similar remote communcation sites, in business since 1984.  The Asentria remote monitoring harware platforms are embedded Linux and they provide alarms and telemetry and various other control capabilities for cell site HVAC, Power Systems, Security and Access Control, Batteries, Environmental, etc.  We have a full line of mature hardware appliances for this purpose but there are always new platforms and new features and capabilities which need to be implemented.  We are preparing to form a technical office in Pakistan consisting of software developers, software testers, technical support, technical writing, and sales engineering.  We are specifically recruiting for an Embedded Linux Developer to join our team.  This position will be a remote work position even though it will eventually be employed by the newly forming Asentria Pakistan corporatoin, although it will start as a contractor.  We are looking for someone who is intermediate to senior, who will be able to learn the specifics of how to modify, debug, and enhance the existing code base of existing and new products without an enormous amount of instruction but with only helpful answers as needed.  This position would study the code base under the tutelage of current developers and would learn for a while by studying and observation, then to start handling a ug or easy feature and then to do from there.

Thus, for the position of Embedded Linux Software Developer, the employee must: 

·        Create, correct, enhance, and debug embedded Linux application code for new and existing products by applying embedded and application programming skills in the language we determine is appropriate. Currently our application programming is done in C.

·       Implement, modify, debug standard and custom communication protocols, as needed

·       Implement and manipulate networking and security code and features within the Linux environment as needed

·       Understand and translate these tasks into an embedded Linux environment

·        Strong ability to work independently, to determine the requirements of a project by reading and discussing specifications and originating further conversations as necessary to understand the objective until you are confident you know what is expected, and then to get it done in a direct and speedy fashion without requiring a lot of hand holding or nudging.

·        Readily acquire programming and technical skills not within their current skill set by reading books and/or hands-on work

·        Speak, write, and read the English language fluently and understandably

·        Comfortably adjust their programming style and approach to that considered acceptable by the company when requested

·        Rapidly grasp the issues relating to the technical and functional aspects of our existing and upcoming products

·        Use and manipulate existing code to readily produce modifications or new products

·        Find their own bugs without undue assistance in a timely fashion

·        Rapidly and fully grasp the fundamental programming challenges they are presented with

·        Produce reliable, efficient, decipherable code which meets the specifications, rapidly and with high quality

·        Help develop test plans for these products using this knowledge and execute them

·        Investigate and duplicate reported software bugs

·        Technically evaluate complex product problems

·        Discuss technical difficulties found with customers (as directed)

·        Interact with the Development, QA and Tech Support team to ensure products are bug free

·        Assist with research and development related assignments as requested

·        Perform all these tasks in a rapid, efficient, effective manner

·        Other related tasks and programming jobs necessary to the effective functioning of the Engineering area as needed
