The successful candidate will leverage their knowledge in mathematics and experience in tutoring or teaching children online to improve student learning outcomes. This role involves following structured lesson plans, adapting instructional techniques to meet diverse learning needs, and maintaining an interactive and supportive virtual classroom atmosphere. Although this position does not involve managing a team, the ability to collaborate effectively with the Beacon educational community and adhere to best practices in online education is essential for success.
Responsibilities
- Provide clear and engaging instruction in mathematics topics covering Grades 3 to 8 level content including Algebra, Geometry, and Calculus fundamentals.
- Use digital teaching tools such as Zoom, Google Meet, and digital whiteboards to facilitate interactive and effective online learning sessions.
- Teach small groups of up to four students, checking for understanding and adapting teaching methods to support diverse learning styles and paces.
- Explain mathematical concepts with clarity and simplicity to build student confidence and competence.
- Develop and follow structured lesson plans aligned with the Ontario curriculum guidelines to ensure consistent educational standards.
- Maintain a quiet, professional, and distraction-free remote teaching environment equipped with necessary technology including webcam, microphone, and a digital writing device.
- Demonstrate patience, energy, and a child-friendly approach to create a supportive and motivating atmosphere for students.
- Evaluate student progress regularly and provide constructive feedback to students and parents to foster continuous improvement.
- Ensure availability during designated Canada evening hours, specifically Ontario time, to accommodate scheduling needs of students and families.
- Apply best practices in online tutoring, including classroom management techniques suitable for virtual instruction settings.
- Collaborate with Beacons educational team to share insights and strategies for enhancing student engagement and achievement.
- Comply with all requirements related to online teaching including stable internet connectivity, appropriate hardware setup, and adherence to safety and privacy protocols.
