COMSATS Internet Services (CIS), a leading Internet Service Provider in Pakistan, seeks a skilled Linux System Administrator to manage and optimize its Linux servers and network infrastructure. The role demands a candidate with at least three years of experience in Linux server management, network administration, and ensuring security and compliance across the system environment. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with advanced storage technologies, virtualization platforms, and various network services to support the companys digital operations efficiently. The successful candidate will lead a small team of two professionals, coordinating activities and maintaining system uptime and performance.
The Linux System Administrator will be responsible for managing critical infrastructure components such as iptables, DNS, SMTP, Apache, SSH, SSL, and FTP services. A deep understanding of file system managementincluding EXT3/4, NFS, iSCSI, XFS, and LVMis essential, along with hands-on experience with VMware ESX virtual environments. Knowledge of disaster recovery methods and implementation to maintain business continuity is a key aspect of the role. Preference will be given to candidates with Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) certification and expertise in Linux shell scripting, who can apply their skills to automate routine tasks and enhance system efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain Linux server environments to ensure high availability and reliability.
- Administer and troubleshoot network services including DNS, SMTP, Apache web server, SSH, SSL, FTP, and firewall configurations such as iptables.
- Implement and support virtualization technologies using VMware ESX to enhance infrastructure scalability and performance.
- Oversee storage solutions using SAN, NAS, and manage RAID configurations to provide secure and reliable data storage.
- Perform file system management duties for EXT3/4, NFS, iSCSI, XFS, and Logical Volume Management (LVM).
- Develop and execute disaster recovery plans including data backup and restoration procedures to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with the security team to ensure compliance with organizational policies and protect systems against security threats.
- Automate routine system administration tasks and deploy scripts using Linux shell scripting to improve operational efficiency.
- Lead and mentor a team of two system administrators, providing guidance and support to ensure effective system management practices.
- Monitor system performance, identify issues proactively, and apply appropriate solutions to optimize system health and stability.
- Maintain documentation of system configurations, processes, and procedures to facilitate knowledge sharing and compliance auditing.
- Stay updated with the latest developments in Linux systems, virtualization technology, and related tools to continuously improve the IT environment.
