The Truck Dispatcher is responsible for overseeing daily freight dispatch functions, including load planning and scheduling using load board platforms such as DAT and Truckstop.com. The role requires constant communication with drivers and brokers to manage pickups, deliveries, and resolve any operational challenges promptly. The dispatcher maintains detailed records of load details, rates, and driver logs, ensuring full compliance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Hours of Service regulations. This position demands excellent organizational skills, strong negotiation abilities, and a thorough understanding of US trucking operations and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Book freight loads for trucks using DAT Load Board and Truckstop.com platforms effectively.
- Negotiate freight rates directly with brokers to maximize profitability and maintain market competitiveness.
- Communicate continuously with truck drivers to coordinate pickups, deliveries, and address any logistical issues promptly.
- Track shipments in real time and update delivery status to ensure transparency and timeliness in operations.
- Maintain accurate records of loads, rates, driver logs, and all dispatch-related documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Ensure adherence to US trucking regulations including FMCSA and Hours of Service (HOS) rules to guarantee legal and safe operations.
- Manage and oversee a team of two persons, delegating workload and providing support to ensure team efficiency and performance.
- Utilize fleet management software and load planning systems to optimize route planning and dispatch coordination.
- Apply strong time management skills to synchronize work schedules with US Central or Eastern time zones for seamless communication.
- Identify and resolve problems quickly by applying strong problem-solving skills to minimize delays and operational disruptions.
- Collaborate with freight brokers and carriers to match loads accurately with available trucks, ensuring full capacity utilization.
- Keep abreast of industry trends and integrate relevant technologies such as Transportation Management Systems (TMS) to improve dispatch efficiency.
