Eila Solutions is seeking an experienced Head of Laboratory to lead and oversee the daily operations of its laboratory facilities. This senior role requires a highly skilled professional with a strong background in clinical or diagnostic microbiology or pathology, holding an FCPS or PhD level qualification. The successful candidate will manage a team of 40 laboratory personnel, ensuring adherence to ISO and other international standards, maintaining quality assurance, and driving continuous improvement in laboratory processes and safety protocols. The role demands a proactive leader who can mentor staff, maintain sophisticated equipment, and oversee accurate and timely reporting of laboratory tests and analyses.
The Head of Laboratory at Eila Solutions is responsible for the implementation and monitoring of critical laboratory functions, including quality and risk management, regulatory compliance, and health and safety protocols. They develop and enforce standard operating procedures and ensure that infection control measures and calibration of diagnostic instruments meet rigorous standards. Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of post-qualification experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills to inspire and manage a large, diverse laboratory team effectively.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily laboratory operations to ensure full compliance with ISO and other applicable international standards.
- Lead, mentor, and train the laboratory staff to achieve optimal performance and high-quality results.
- Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot advanced diagnostic and analytical laboratory equipment to guarantee accuracy and reliability.
- Design, implement, and monitor quality assurance and quality control processes, including infection control protocols.
- Ensure all laboratory activities comply with established standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Manage risk assessment and implement corrective actions to uphold laboratory safety and data integrity.
- Collaborate with regulatory bodies and prepare the laboratory for audits and inspections.
- Develop and monitor laboratory budgets, resource allocation, and procurement strategies.
- Analyze laboratory data and prepare accurate, comprehensive, and timely reports to support clinical and research decisions.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement by evaluating laboratory processes and recommending upgrades or new technologies.
- Oversee Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to assure efficient data handling and record-keeping.
- Maintain strict adherence to health and safety protocols, ensuring a safe working environment for all team members.
- Coordinate with other department heads to align laboratory services with organizational goals and clinical needs.
- Drive initiatives to boost team engagement, professional development, and retention.
- Address and resolve operational issues, equipment malfunctions, and personnel challenges promptly and effectively.
