The Field Inspector (Bus Operations) is responsible for ensuring the efficient and smooth operation of bus services on assigned routes. This role involves closely monitoring bus schedules, staff behavior, vehicle conditions, and passenger services to maintain high standards of operation. The Field Inspector collaborates with the Depot Manager and Assistant Manager – Operations to uphold service quality and ensure compliance with transport regulations, thereby contributing to a dependable public transportation system.
Key Responsibilities
Route & Schedule Monitoring: Conduct regular on-site inspections at bus stops, terminals, and along routes to verify that buses adhere to published schedules, routes, and trip frequencies. Identify and report any early departures, delays, missed trips, or unauthorized route deviations.
Staff Supervision: Ensure drivers and conductors are present and punctual at designated locations. Verify compliance with uniform standards, valid identification, and operating procedures. Report any instances of misconduct, absenteeism, or violations of duty protocols.
Passenger Service Oversight: Monitor passenger boarding and deboarding, manage crowd control, and oversee stop management. Detect and report issues such as overloading, inappropriate passenger behavior, or irregularities in fare collection. Address commuter complaints on-site and escalate when necessary.
Ticketing & Revenue Checks: Conduct surprise ticket inspections to confirm valid ticket issuance and prevent revenue loss. Work collaboratively with ticket checking teams and enforcement officers during joint operations.
Vehicle Condition & Safety: Perform visual inspections of buses to assess cleanliness, valid fitness certifications, lighting, and safety equipment. Report vehicles that are in poor condition or require maintenance.
Reporting & Documentation: Maintain detailed inspection reports, duty registers, and logbooks. Submit daily summaries to the Depot Manager or Operations Control Center. Assist in compiling data for audits and evaluating route performance.
Incident Handling: Respond promptly to accidents, breakdowns, or operational incidents in the field. Coordinate with relevant departments for timely resolution and document any road-related issues or obstructions impacting service.
Required Qualifications
Candidates should have completed Higher Secondary education (10+2) from a recognized board. A minimum of 2 to 3 years’ experience in field-level transport operations or related services is essential. Strong knowledge of city routes, bus operations, and scheduling systems is required. Excellent observational and reporting skills, along with a basic understanding of ticketing systems and revenue protocols, are necessary. Good interpersonal skills are important for effective communication with staff and passengers. The ability to work independently in outdoor environments and adapt to rotational shifts is also required.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
A diploma in Transport Management, Traffic Operations, or Logistics is preferred. Experience working within government or public sector transport authorities is considered an advantage. The role involves frequent travel along designated routes and requires readiness to work early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and public holidays. Flexibility to respond promptly during emergencies or peak operational hours is essential. The position offers a competitive monthly salary ranging from Rs55,000 to Rs65,000. This is a full-time, in-person role based in Chiniot, reporting directly to the Depot Manager or Assistant Manager – Operations.
