- Responsible for overall unit operations in accordance with the Mission and Vision of the organization.
- Responsible for implementation of unit objectives.
- Manage and accepts call coverage as designated by the Clinical Nurse Manager.
- Serves on committees as assigned.
- Role models clinical excellence and demonstrates current technical and therapeutic skills applicable to appropriate patient populations.
- Maintains compliance with local and international regulatory and accreditation agency standards.
- Accepts patient assignments as required.
- Assists in maintaining appropriate staffing assignments for current and upcoming shift using budgeted guidelines.
- Controls overtime and supply costs.
- Assists development of Capital and Staff budgets, implementing them, and recording variances against them.
- Assists with orientation, competencies and continuing education for staff.
- Utilizes patient acuity, staff experience, education and staff mix to make patient care assignments.
- Implements a robust triage mechanism for incoming patients.
- In collaboration with the Clinical Manager, counsels staff using effective and constructive communication skills.
- Completes annual performance reviews in collaboration with the Clinical Nurse Manager.
- Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings
- Assists with recruitment and selection of personnel as requested.
- Investigates patient complaints and follows through on incident reports and corrective measures in collaboration with the Clinical Nurse Manager or Chief Nursing Officer
- Performs random chart audits for accuracy and completeness.
- Works with other departments to coordinate patient care.
- Ensures unit cleanliness and order.
- Maintains certification in BLS/ACLS/PALS/NRMP/ATLS as required.
- Ensures that unit staff are hold a current certification in BLS/ACLS/PALS/NRMP/ATLS as required.
- Provides for the care of patients requiring isolation.
- Provides for care of geriatric, adult, school age, adolescent, preschool, toddler, and infant patients as required.
- Responsible for completing unit schedule/staffing in conjunction with the Nurse Manager and charge nurses.
- Supervises leaves and attendance roster.
