1. Responsible for overall unit operations in accordance with the Mission and Vision of the organization.
  2. Responsible for implementation of unit objectives.
  3. Manage and accepts call coverage as designated by the Clinical Nurse Manager.
  4. Serves on committees as assigned.
  5. Role models clinical excellence and demonstrates current technical and therapeutic skills applicable to appropriate patient populations.
  6. Maintains compliance with local and international regulatory and accreditation agency standards.
  7. Accepts patient assignments as required.
  8. Assists in maintaining appropriate staffing assignments for current and upcoming shift using budgeted guidelines.
  9. Controls overtime and supply costs.
  10. Assists development of Capital and Staff budgets, implementing them, and recording variances against them.
  11. Assists with orientation, competencies and continuing education for staff.
  12. Utilizes patient acuity, staff experience, education and staff mix to make patient care assignments.
  13. Implements a robust triage mechanism for incoming patients.
  14. In collaboration with the Clinical Manager, counsels staff using effective and constructive communication skills.
  15. Completes annual performance reviews in collaboration with the Clinical Nurse Manager.
  16. Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings
  17. Assists with recruitment and selection of personnel as requested.
  18. Investigates patient complaints and follows through on incident reports and corrective measures in collaboration with the Clinical Nurse Manager or Chief Nursing Officer
  19. Performs random chart audits for accuracy and completeness.
  20. Works with other departments to coordinate patient care.
  21. Ensures unit cleanliness and order.
  22. Maintains certification in BLS/ACLS/PALS/NRMP/ATLS as required.
  23. Ensures that unit staff are hold a current certification in BLS/ACLS/PALS/NRMP/ATLS as required.
  24. Provides for the care of patients requiring isolation.
  25. Provides for care of geriatric, adult, school age, adolescent, preschool, toddler, and infant patients as required.
  26. Responsible for completing unit schedule/staffing in conjunction with the Nurse Manager and charge nurses.
  27. Supervises leaves and attendance roster.
