The Head of Data Services is a senior leadership position based in Islamabad, responsible for steering and expanding The Software Factory’s Data & Systems Engineering practice. This role demands a visionary leader with deep technical expertise and strong management skills to lead diverse teams and foster innovation across Managed Services, Data Engineering, Data Products, Data Monetization, AI & Analytics, and Systems Engineering. The focus is on achieving operational excellence, building capabilities, and ensuring the organization remains competitive and innovative in a fast-changing market. Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Practice Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive Data Services strategy that aligns with evolving market trends and client needs. Drive growth and scalability of the Data Services practice while upholding high-quality delivery standards. Build and promote a strong brand identity for the Data Services function within The Software Factory.
Delivery & Engineering Excellence: Lead specialized teams in Data Engineering, Systems Engineering, Managed Services, and Data Monetization to deliver world-class turnkey projects and managed services. Implement robust governance frameworks, enforce service level agreements (SLAs), and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure excellence. Integrate AI/ML, cloud-native engineering, and modern data stack technologies into service offerings.
Capability & Talent Development: Establish structured frameworks for skill development, certification, and career progression within the practice. Mentor technical leads and cultivate a strong talent pipeline for future leadership roles. Collaborate with HR and Learning & Development teams to promote continuous upskilling and capability enhancement initiatives.
Collaboration & Growth Enablement: Partner closely with Business Development to design and price competitive service offerings. Work alongside cross-functional leaders to embed data services into broader organizational transformation initiatives. Provide thought leadership on emerging technology trends to support the long-term strategic vision of The Software Factory.
Required Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical discipline is required. A Master’s degree in Business or Technology is preferred.
Experience: Candidates must have 10 to 15 years of experience in Data and IT services, including at least 5 years in senior leadership roles. Proven track record of managing large engineering teams of 50 or more professionals and overseeing complex delivery portfolios is essential. Demonstrated success in delivering managed services, data engineering projects, and monetizable data products is required.
Soft Skills: Strong leadership and mentoring abilities are critical. Excellent governance, program management, and project delivery skills are expected. Commercial acumen with a solid understanding of cost structures, margins, and scalability models is necessary.
