Project Duration: 6 Months    

 Objective:

To ensure the health and safety of students and staff through participation in the development of policies and procedures related to physical examinations/health screenings, school site health/safety screenings and oversight of the school health services.

Project Overview:

The project aims to improve the status of health & nutrition and promote better health & hygiene practices among school going children especially adolescent girls in District Buner. The target group includes the primary to higher secondary school children, adolescent girls and school teachers of target area.  This project will improve the health and learning outcomes of the school going children through;

1.      Health screening, early diagnosis and treatment of visual and hearing impairments, Worming, anemia and malnourishment in 150 schools (74 girls’ schools and 76 Primary boys’ schools) of Tehsil Gagra, Buner.

2.      Two-days training of 300 teachers (148 females, 152 males), on health screening techniques, health education, WASH, MHM, respiratory hygiene, food & nutrition.

3.      Meetings and FGDs with the relevant staff of health and education department.

4.      The project will engage district Buner health, education and population welfare departments to systematically adopt and carry on school health program.

5.      The project aims to launch AGAH (Adolescent Girls Awareness on Health) campaign in all-girls school of target tehsil.

Main Responsibilities/Activities

Performance Responsibilities

1.      Directs and supervises the conduct of general physical examinations or health screenings of students and staff and oversees the delivery of school health services.

2.      Consults with parents of children with identified illness, physical impairments or other health related conditions and makes recommendations for follow-up medical evaluation and/or treatment.

3.      Provides consultation and assistance in the development of district policies and procedures related to health, safety and emergency medical procedures.

4.      Plans and administers a communicable disease control program and reports incidents of disease as required by law.

5.      Ensures that all required health records are maintained in the prescribed format and in a manner which retains medical confidentiality.

6.      Consults with the school nurse regarding the administration of medications. Develops protocols as necessary.

7.      Participates in case conferences with the Child Study Team, student support services and guidance department, as requested.

Job Responsibilities:

1.      Examines students to determine medical eligibility to participate in interscholastic sports; reviews report from other licensed physicians regarding student eligibility and provides parents with written notification of approval or disapproval for athletic participation.

2.      Participates in the development of a comprehensive school health program and interprets school health policies and practices.

3.      Review, approval or detail of reasons for denial of a student’s physician’s determination of anticipated confinement and resulting need for home instruction.

4.      Review and approve Do Not Resuscitate orders written by the student’s physician and provide for implementation in the school.

5.      Performs other duties within the scope of certification and contractual agreement.

Minimum Requirement:

Qualification: a 4 year MBBS from accredited medical institute/university with a valid medical registration/license to practice medicine.

Experience:

·        Broad knowledge of child health and development and understanding of laws and governing school health programs.

·        Experience in the delivery of medical services

·        Preferred experience of more than 3 to 5 years in development sector with relevant projects

Skills:

·        Strong interpersonal and communication skills

·        Ability to communicate with patients about sensitive topics and apply medical knowledge to patient cases to treat and diagnose each case

·        Ability to work with other medical professionals as needed to diagnose and treat patients

·        Compassion and Patience

·        Problem-solving and Report writing skills

·        Fluency in local language and English
