Instructor (Gastroenterology), Department of Medicine

Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Instructor in Gastroenterology within its Department of Medicine. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering compassionate, ethical, and evidence-based care to patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This role requires active involvement in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams managing complex gastrointestinal and liver conditions, and participation in clinical research in gastroenterology and hepatology. Additionally, the instructor will play a vital role in the education and training of undergraduate and postgraduate medical trainees, supporting their clinical and research development, while contributing to departmental and institutional academic activities.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide accessible, patient-centered gastroenterology care under supervision in inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Perform and assist in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for the management of complex gastrointestinal and liver cases.
- Teach and train undergraduate and postgraduate medical students following established curricula and standards.
- Conduct clinical research in gastroenterology and hepatology, including project design and securing competitive research grants.
- Supervise residents, medical officers, and other trainees, guiding clinical care and procedural skills development.
- Serve as a liaison between faculty and trainees to enhance communication and coordination.
- Participate in departmental performance improvement initiatives and contribute to organizational research efforts.
- Assist faculty in consulting clinics and conduct inpatient rounds, monitoring resident performance and patient care.
- Organize and oversee educational activities such as courses, workshops, seminars, and continuing medical education (CME) programs.
- Support residency and fellowship training programs through direct teaching and mentorship.
- Engage in institutional CME activities and public awareness programs related to gastroenterology.
- Represent the department at internal and national academic medical education conferences and symposiums.
- Undertake complex tasks requiring teamwork, interdisciplinary coordination, and administrative responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

- MBBS degree.
- Completion of FCPS, American Boards in Medicine/Gastroenterology specialty, or MRCP with GI training.
- One year of house job experience.
- Completion of a structured Medicine Residency Program with Gastroenterology training.
- Additional fellowship training or equivalent of at least two years at a reputable institution, or a relevant diploma.
- Demonstrated scholarly activity through research and publications in peer-reviewed indexed journals or significant contributions to medical education.
- Excellent interpersonal, clinical, teaching, and training skills.
- Ability to provide high-quality patient care across diverse clinical settings.
- Strong teamwork and communication abilities.
- Competence in delivering effective CME lectures.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
